Two people gained “unauthorized access” to an American Airlines plane Sunday morning, delaying a flight from Philadelphia to Boston by three hours, the airline said.

A father and his 21-year-old daughter walked onto the plane at Philadelphia International Airport and dropped off their luggage — all without showing a boarding pass to airport employees, WCVB reported. The door appeared to have been left unlocked overnight.

The airline switched the plane for Flight 1655 out of “an abundance of caution,” the airline said.

The flight, which was set for 8 a.m., left around 11 a.m.

American Airlines said foul play is not suspected, and the entry appeared to have been an accident. The airline also did not consider this a security breach, since the father and daughter had already gone through security.

It remains unclear how the passengers got onto the plane, or what happened to them afterward.

The Philadelphia airport could not immediately be reached.
