The first trailer for the upcoming football film "Woodlawn" has been released online.

The film, set against the backdrop of high school football in Birmingham in the early 1970s, features Academy Award winner Jon Voight as Paul "Bear" Bryant. Former Alabama player Caleb Castille (son of Crimson Tide legend Jeremiah Castille and younger brother of Tim and Simeon Castille) portrays Tony Nathan, a Woodlawn High School star who went on to play running back at Alabama and in the NFL.

"Woodlawn" was filmed in and around Birmingham last fall, and is scheduled to be released Oct. 16. According to "Woodlawn's" press notes, the film "explores how the struggling, racially torn team was brought together in the spirit of love and unity, leading to the record-shattering Banks vs. Woodlawn football game at Legion Field in November 1974."

Other "Woodlawn" cast members include Sean Astin as Woodlawn team chaplain Hank Erwin, C. Thomas Howell as legendary Banks coach Shorty White and Sherri Shepard as Nathan's mother. The film is co-directed by the brother team of Birmingham natives Anthony and Jon Erwin, the sons of Hank Erwin.
