Kindred, a New Restaurant from the Brazen Team, Will Open in Sunnyside

Chef Brian Wilson, formerly of Rioja, will lead the new venture.

Brazen

Chris Sargent, the owner of Brazen, has big plans for expansion: He will open Kindred, an American Craft Kitchen, in Sunnyside in September. Located at 41st and Tejon in a project owned by developer Paul Tamburello, Kindred will stretch over 2,000 square feet with an additional 1,200 square feet of patio and will be guided in its menu by a wood-fired grill.

"I am really excited to work with Paul [Tamburello] and to bring some of the DNA we built at Brazen to this neighborhood," says Sargent. "With this new space and the patio, I will have the opportunity to build what I wanted at Brazen from the very beginning, as opposed to doing it piece by piece like we have in the last few months," he adds. The same design company that created the space at Brazen, Lubowicki Architecture, has been commissioned for the new spot.

Chef Brian Wilson, formerly of Rioja, has already joined Sargent at Brazen in a consulting role after the departure of chef Lance Barto. He will serve as executive chef at Kindred when the restaurant opens. Wilson and Sargent are talking about their plans for pickling and jamming and charcuterie at the new restaurant, but both are committed to a great focus hospitality and providing the neighborhood with a comfortable guest experience. Stay tuned for updates.
