THE INSIDE STORY: Kate Moss gathered up friends and industry collaborators for a small cocktail party at London’s Chiltern Firehouse to mark the launch of her capsule collection with Equipment.
The collection marks the contemporary label’s 40th anniversary and will launch today on Net-a-porter, where it will retail exclusively for two weeks.
Moss whispered with friends in a corner, making frequent visits to Chiltern’s secret smoking terrace, and shying away from reporters and photographers.
She made a brief appearance in the main room where the event was taking place to grab the canapés on offer — crab donuts, fried chicken and bacon cornbread.
Carine Roitfeld, Lara Stone, Charlotte Tilbury, Sam McKnight, Bella Freud and Jefferson Hack were among the guests.
“My husband quit Equipment, so I’m so happy to see this collection and that they have continued doing great things. I’m wearing the leopard-print jacket now and I already bought a few more pieces,” Roitfeld told WWD. Her husband, Christian Restoin, is the label’s founder.
Lara Stone, who was wearing one of the star-print silk shirts from Moss’ collection, said she loved her fellow model and “could wear every single piece from this collection.”
Ara Vartanian, the Brazil-based fine jeweler, said Moss has been one of his biggest supporters, having bought a number of his signature diamond and shark tooth earrings for herself and for friends. The designer is planning to open his first store on London’s Bruton Place in July.
The Moss collection draws inspiration from the staple pieces that make up her wardrobe, including shirts, pussy-bow blouses, skinny jeans and slip dresses.
In a wink and homage to the late David Bowie, she included metallic details and lightning bolt prints on shirts. Other highlights include leopard-print pajama-style sets; classic white shirts with a handwritten “KM” monogram embroidered on the pockets; and skinny, printed scarves.
Prices range between 100 pounds, or $144, and 420 pounds, or $607.
Alison Loehnis, president of Net-a-porter and Mr Porter said the collection is already selling fast on the site.
“Kate [Moss’] incredible style is infused throughout this collection for Equipment: perfect silk blouses, leopard print, slipdresses — this is the essence of Kate Moss that we all have tried to emulate at some stage. The collection went live this morning and unsurprisingly, it’s been a huge hit with our customers.”
