One child was severely burned in a two-alarm apartment fire in the city’s west end on Tuesday morning.
Paramedics said three children — including the burned 11-year-old — and four adults are being treated for minor smoke inhalation in hospital.
The fire broke out in a second-floor unit at 230 Lake Promenade, near Lake Shore Boulevard and Long Branch Avenue, just before 10 a.m., Toronto police said.
A police officer, who was first on the scene and one of those transported to hospital, ran into the building and pulled out two children. He was later treated for smoke inhalation.
A second officer also required medical attention.
The child suffered third-degree burns and was transported to the Hospital for Sick Children, along with the other child.
The rest of the injured were taken to Toronto General.
According to witnesses, the officer saved the child who was severely burned.
The fire has since been knocked down.
