Two fishermen in the northern end of the San Sebastian River near the new U.S. 1 bridge found human remains along the shoreline.

The fishermen made the discovery around 9:30 a.m. Sunday while fishing. St. Augustine Police officers and detectives responded after the fishermen reported finding the remains.

Detective Jennifer Trotzke reported the medical examiner estimated the body had been there for possibly a year. The area appears to be a transient camp that had been abandoned for some time.

According to a press release from the St. Augustine Police Department, there was nothing found with the skeletal remains that would help identify the person.

The SAPD is asking for anyone with information that could help identify this person to call the police department or Northeast Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477.

Callers can remain anonymous and be eligible to receive a reward of up to $1000.
