Edmonton man facing murder charges in Alberta and B.C.

EDMONTON — An Edmonton man is facing murder charges in Alberta and British Columbia for separate crimes, following a joint investigation between several policing agencies in the two provinces.

Sean Jennings, 27, is being charged with first degree murder for a shooting in Richmond, B.C. in Oct. 2014.

The body of Theoren Gregory Poitras, 25, was found inside a Richmond home on Oct. 2. Poitras was known to police in Alberta for his involvement with gangs, according to Richmond RCMP.

Jennings is also facing a second degree murder charge for the July 2014 shooting death of Alor Deng. On July 20, Deng was walking with friends along 81 Avenue, near 103 Street, when they came across another group. A verbal exchange occurred when Den was fatally shot.

Police say the two murders were unrelated. The investigation into the Richmond shooting was carried out by law enforcement from Alberta and B.C. Edmonton police, RCMP and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team were all involved.

Police acquired additional evidence during the two homicide investigations connected to numerous serious and violent crimes in Edmonton and in lower mainland B.C., which included shootings, home invasions and robberies.

Police have laid over 50 criminal charges on two people as a result of the joint investigation. Police expect other individuals will be charged in the coming weeks.
