Helen Mirren wants to star in a 'Fast and Furious' film

Dominic Toretto may have found his newest foe—and she looks suspiciously like Queen Elizabeth II.

In a recent interview with Yahoo, Helen Mirren expressed her interest in joining the Fast and Furious franchise’s ever-changing ensemble.

“My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie,” Mirren said. “I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I’ll be in Fast and Furious 8.”

Sure, it might be a little odd to watch Mirrend infiltrate the Los Angeles street racing scene. But as the franchise has expanded far beyond its humble beginnings, there’s actually plenty of opportunity for her to fit into the cast. And she’s already a big fan of one of the franchise’s stars.

“I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant,” she said. “I love Vin Diesel. He’s a great guy, smart—I love him. It’s partly because of him I’d like to be in one, but also the driving.”

So, knowing Mirren has a need for speed, what Furious 8 role would actually suit her? She could play a wisened, experienced getaway driver who’s been out of the game for years but is brought back in for one last job—because it’s not a Fast and Furious film without the promise that this is going to be the final one.

She could take on a bureacratic role, like the one Kurt Russell appears to play in Furious 7. That wouldn’t preclude her from the action: The franchise hasn’t stopped its law enforcement characters from diving into the fray.

But if the Fast and Furious films are about one thing, it’s family. (They’re also about having a code, driving dangerously fast, defying physics, and HUGE explosions. But mostly family.) In Furious 7, that’s true not just for the heroes, but for the villains as well: Jason Statham plays Deckard Shaw, the brother of Furious 6‘s Big Bad, Owen Shaw. So why not take that connection one step further, and introduce Owen and Deckard’s mom, the true criminal mastermind of the family?

Presuming Deckard fails and is either dead or locked up by the end of 7, surely a proud, criminal mama will want to avenge the defeat of both of her sons at the hands of Dom and the gang. The series also hasn’t had a main female villain, and after eight films, it’ll be in desperate need of some diversity on the evil front.

Mostly, though, what better way to fulfill Mirren’s appetite for more driving and action than as 8‘s central villain? It can even be titled Fast and Furious: Family Vengeance—because the series needs another major title change.
