2015 Part-time Internship Opportunities @ rabble.ca!

rabble.ca is one of the success stories of Canadian independent journalism, publishing

news and columns by some of the best writers of the left, and providing exposure to
new writers. You can read, hear and watch them in our original news, opinion, blogs,
books, podcast and video sections, and on our moderated discussion board, babble!
Since rabble.ca's inception in 2001, our readership has grown by leaps and bounds while
maintaining a loyal core readership: we get up to 450,000 unique visitors monthly, and
we are growing.
rabble.ca isn't your typical media. We operate on a shoestring budget -- our annual
budget is less than the salary of a single news anchor in some bigger media outlets.
We're an incorporated not-for-profit organization funded by readers and sustaining
partners, and fuelled by activist energy. rabble.ca is run by passionate media
professionals who work part-time and give their all to bring you the news and views that
matter.
rabble.ca is currently seeking part-time volunteer editorial interns -- please see
descriptions of each below. Our internships meet the standards laid out by the Ontario
Ministry of Labour, which are outlined here:
http://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/es/pubs/internships.php
Although our internships meet the standards to protect young workers, as a progressive
news source, rabble.ca seeks to push well beyond what is considered fair and
compensates interns according to our means. To recognize that interns are valued and
appreciated, we offer a $500 honourarium following the successful completion of each
internship.
Applications are due by Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 5 p.m. EST.
As rabble operates in a virtual office environment, interns may be located anywhere in
the country and will work from home; positions run through August 2015.

group of committed media producers and journalists at one of Canada's most innovative

chip on their shoulder when it comes to stories on post-secondary education issues -labour, tuition, debt, teaching -- and aren't shy about chasing down elusive writers for
loose change. They love independent media and want to make it better.
You will have the opportunity to learn and participate in every aspect of a variety of
editorial and publishing duties, while developing your own blogs-related focus. Your
training will include: curating a blog on post-secondary education; tracking down
potential reprints; enlisting writers for original articles; attending weekly story meetings
with pitches in hand; proofreading submissions. By the end of the internship, you will
know your way around blog publishing and have the editorial skills to make a blog shine.
You will commit 10 hours per week, including bi-weekly check-ins with your main
supervising staff member. Your main supervisor is based in Victoria/Vancouver, but a
