This is one of many Ramsar Listed wetlands around the Gannawarra shire.
I was and remain deeply distressed, shocked, traumatized and disgusted by the behaviour and cruelty I witnessed by duck shooters.
Protected species such as Freckled Duck a Blue Billed Duck, Eurasian Coot and others were pulled out dead and wounded by rescuers, along with game birds.
There are hundreds of beautiful water birds across the wetlands of Victoria, condemned to die a cruel and merciless death by the hands of shot gun wielding shooters.
The Game Management Authority along with Field and Game Australia have a Respect campaign for duck shooters and hunters: "Respect the environment, Respect the game you hunt etc.
What kind of respect allows children as young as 12 to go out and cripple and kill beautiful native water birds under the "responsible supervision of an adult"?
We are now well into the second decade of the 21st Century.
Something is dreadfully wrong that this obscenity and archaic "recreation" is still going on. It must be banned once and for all by a compassionate and understanding government, along with the 75 per cent of Victorians who support this ban.
