Jaguars release veteran DT Roy Miller

After several big moves throughout the week, the Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the release of veteran nose tackle Roy Miller.

Miller, 29, was one of general manager Dave Caldwell’s first free agent signings upon his arrival in 2013. Miller signed with the Jaguars after previously spending four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who drafted him in 2009.

The move comes as no surprise when considering he suffered a major injury, tearing his Achilles in October. As a result, Abry Jones was called upon to start in his place and had a solid season. Jones’ play would earn him a new contract as he re-signed with the Jaguars just last month via a four-year deal, which ultimately was the writing on the wall for Miller.

Throughout his four year tenure with the Jags, Miller started a total of 50 games and was a key piece for the Jaguars defense serving as the anchor of the defensive line. Miller also was the team’s most vocal leader, respected for his work on and off the field.

With Dontari Poe leaving Indianapolis without a deal, the stars have aligned for the Jaguars to make a move and find Miller’s successor as his addition would give the Jaguars one of the best defensive lines in the game.
