A threatened plant has temporarily halted the Havana Park District’s planned $300,000 Riverwalk development, state engineers have confirmed. The plant, the decurrent false aster, has not been found on the site, but soil conditions there make it possible that it could be found.

Former Tazewell County Sheriff George Saal of Pekin was successful Tuesday in his bid for the Democratic nomination for sheriff over three other candidates and will face GOP nominee James R. Donahue, easy victor on the Republican side, in the November general election.

The Pekin bridge, closed for repairs since Feb. 24, reopened to highway traffic again at 12:25 p.m. today. “They’re removing the barricades now,” the bridge tender told the Times. Highway maintenance officials report the bridge will now be open on a regular 24-hour-a-day schedule.
