No Ordinary Christmas by Belle Calhoune is the first book in the new contemporary romance Mistletoe, Maine series. The story in this first book is one that is told by changing the point of view between the two main characters in the book. It also does seem to be that the common theme for the series will be the setting and possibly changing main characters in the books to come.

Dante West grew up in Mistletoe, Maine but left at the first chance he got with every intention of heading to Hollywood and making it big as an actor. The road wasn’t easy at all to achieve those dreams but Dante did make a name for himself staring in action movies but now wants a change in his career writing and directing his own film.

Everyone in Mistletoe seems to be excited for Dante’s return to film his new movie, everyone that is except the one Dante left behind, Lucy Marshall. Lucy knew of Dante’s dreams and is happy for him but she can’t forget all the nights of crying herself to sleep when Dante went without her. Planning to avoid him at all costs doesn’t last long though when Dante offers up a huge sum to film in the library where Lucy works.

No Ordinary Christmas by Belle Calhoune was a lovely opener to this new contemporary romance series. Being a fan of a second chance trope I had hoped I would enjoy this one and I was right. The characters were likable and it had a nice small town vibe. I would say I would’ve liked to have seen even more Christmas incorporated into the story but I can see how that was hard with the moving filming. Overall though since I did enjoy this one I will be excited to see where the next book takes us.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Lucy is a small town librarian and her hometown of Mistletoe, Maine is all in a tizzy over the boy who broke her heart when he ran away to Hollywood and became an action star. His name is Dante and he is back in town to produce and direct a new movie. It is impossible for them to avoid spending time together, so both begin to hope they might be able to rekindle their love from eight years before. Has too much time gone by? Will Lucy's protective older sister Stella ever approve of them getting back together? With plenty of Christmas charm and a clean romance, this was a fun holiday read. You would think my favorite character would be Lucy since I work in a library. Unfortunately, Lucy did not do much library-related work in the book except hang out there and talk about getting more funding. Not one book recommendation! So, my award for best character goes to (drum roll, please). . . Tess, Lucy's precocious 11-year-old little sister. She was a hoot!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Coming back home during the most festive time of the year had been a choice, one he hoped would bring him closure, not just with his relationship with Troy and his father's death, but with Lucy, the woman who still owned a large piece of his heart.

It's been eight and a half years since Dante West left Mistletoe, Maine to pursue an acting career. He now stars in Hollywood action movies and earned the nickname “Inferno” but all his fame and fortune seems to have come at the cost of family and romantic relationships. After a very close call with a stunt gone wrong, Dante decides to head back home and try to repair those relationships.

They had planned to leave Mistletoe together and he'd left without her.

Lucy Marshall is one of the few people not excited that Dante West is returning home to film one of his movies. They were childhood bestfriends who became more and planned on leaving town together but when Dante skipped town without telling her and not trying to contact her for months, Lucy's heart was shattered. She's now a head librarian and doing well for herself but still nursing a broken heart. When she finds out that Dante's movie is a love story and it's their love story, she begins to see that maybe Dante wasn't as unaffected by their sudden breakup as she thought he was.

In making this movie, he was going to be wearing his heart on his sleeve about the woman who'd stolen his heart back when he was a teenager.

Starting off the Mistletoe, Maine series, No Ordinary Christmas is going to hit that sweet spot for fans of small town romances and readers who enjoy a festive holiday atmosphere. This does have some of the first in a series syndrome with a good amount of characters introduced who are practically begging for their own future HEAs. All the secondary characters do fill out their roles in creating the world (the small town) and I enjoyed them but they still stole some time away from the main couple's romance. However, one of my favorite things about this story was the sisters relationships between our heroine Lucy and her older sister Stella and younger sister Tess; their love and friendship is a definite highlight and I wanted scenes of them all together.

This is a second chance romance with Dante coming back home to set things right with not only his family but Lucy. You'll be in Lucy's corner with how Dante just left town without a word to her and then soften a bit when we get more of Dante's story and how circumstances were for him back then. It was around 40% when Dante explains those circumstances to Lucy and she begins to forgive him and I thought that was great timing, book percentage wise, as they could now spend the back-half of the book coming together again. I was a little confused and disappointed when instead, the story still had Lucy stuck with focusing on how Dante left without a word, I thought that 40% scene had resolved that. It made the second half lose so much momentum for me and I felt like the story stalled with characters not doing much.

Maybe, just maybe, this time around they would get things right.

There was a late (86%) Big Misunderstanding that came off more forced to me and for a moment, it seemed like neither Lucy or Dante were going to do anything to resolve it but it was obviously there to give Dante the opportunity to give the big romantic gesture. I liked these two separately but their romance came off more bland to me as Lucy bemoaned most of the time and Dante wasn't out there working too hard to romance her; I really did end up getting more joy out of the sisters' relationship. If you want to pick this up for holiday vibes it definitely has that with Dante having to be Santa at one point, mistletoe, a Christmas tree farm, and more. There were a good number of secondary characters with heartache, so if you like the small town of Mistletoe, you'll easily have the opportunity to visit again.

Mistletoe, Maine is the setting for this romance and not a big surprise, but the story is going to take place during the Christmas season. The lead characters are likeable and the story gets off to a good start. Unfortunately, I started to lose interest somewhere near the halfway point. It's not a bad read, it just didn't wow me.

Lucy Marshall is a librarian and years ago, Dante West, broke her heart when he left their hometown. Dante is now a big time movie star and is back in Mistletoe to shoot his latest film. He is desperate to make amends with Lucy. Will these two crazy kids have a second shot at love? (Come on, you know the answer!)

I really enjoyed the opening chapter in which Lucy doesn't want to have anything to do with her former boyfriend. I honestly would have loved for that to be stretched out instead of jumping into the fairly friendly interactions pretty soon after he arrives in town. The issue for me is when you somewhat eliminate the conflict early on, eventually the story starts feeling like filler. I ran into the same type of problem with another romance I recently read. I just needed a little something more from the storyline.

This book is the first in the series and while it wasn't a favorite of mine, I am intrigued with Lucy's sister being the featured character in the second book. There's a lot of potential there so I'll probably give it a chance when it comes out.

Thank you to Forever for providing me with a copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.

Okay, first off I have to give a shout out to narrators Mela Lee and Tre Hall who did an a-m-a-z-i-n-g job!!!! It was fun to have a different voice for both points of view but, besides that, they just delivered an emotionally captivating performance. Definitely enhanced my 'reading' enjoyment.

And I was already giddy with delight over one of my favourite authors releasing a Christmas romance. This one kinda snuck up on me and I literally did a squealing happy dance when I found it on audible. Lucy and Dante were definitely worth the fuss!

So -- Dante -- gah! I have exactly zero interest in movie star/Hollywood tropes. Totally not into all the glam and glitz. BUT, it's Belle Calhoune!!!! And because I trust her I gave Dante a chance...and fell head over heels. Not just with this hero, but the plot and the town (please let there be more Mistletoe stories in our future, please!)

And dear, sweet, stubborn Lucy -- librarian extraordnaire and epic grudge holder. Dante's abrupt departure at the end of high school gutted her while crushing her hopes for a happily ever after and she's spent eight years nursing those hurt feelings. And then Dante returns, the town embraces him with a hero's welcome and Lucy's forced to finally face both the past and the present.

Cue the stomach-churning angst because this hero and heroine have both made mistakes. Dante's journey takes on a prodigal air as he strives to make amends with both Lucy and his family. He doesn't always go about it in the right way -- sometime's he's endearingly clumsy or achingly vulnerable. Lucy isn't always receptive, quick to judge, hesitant to trust. Happy sigh -- the kind of wary, two steps forward, one step back kind of reunion romance that keeps a reader emotionally engaged right to the breathtaking conclusion.

All set against the idyllic backdrop of a town called Mistletoe that certainly knows how to celebrate Christmas! Throw in some sisterly hijinks (Lucy's little sister is a riot!) and more than a few melt-the-snow-around-your-feet kisses and whooeeee, you get the perfect holiday romance!

Dante West left Mistletoe long ago to become a successful actor in Los Angeles. Now he's back in his hometown to film a new movie he's producing. This is the perfect opportunity for him to help boost the small town's economy and make amends with friends and family.

Lucy Marshall is the local librarian and also happen to be Dante's ex-girlfriend. She's not happy when he appears in town and asks to film at her library. But she can't refuse his offer to make a major donation. She's already imagining how she can allot the money. But as she finds herself falling back in love with Dante, she's afraid he'll end up leaving and breaking her heart again.

Dante has regrets over not being around while his father was sick and it's driven a wedge between him and his brother. He hasn't been close to his family in awhile and he's realizing that he doesn't have that close supportive circle in Los Angeles. He's also hoping to reconnect with Lucy and his movie's plot mirror's their love story.

Belle Calhoune is no stranger to Christmas romance. I watched the movie Love, Alaska that was based on one of her books. This book reads like a holiday movie. There's enough snow, hot chocolate, and Christmas decorations to get you in the mood for the season. Just because a romance is closed door doesn't mean the characters can't have great chemistry and steamy kisses which Dante and Lucy had. I love small town romance so I was enjoying how the town celebrated the holidays. Lucy and Dante's rekindled relationship was the talk of the town. I adored Lucy's little sister Tess and their closeness despite Lucy being so much older than her. And I also liked how protective her older sister Stella was of her.

If you love Christmas stories and you need something to get you into the holiday spirit I definitely recommending checking this one out. It's a cute and quick read with Black leads set against a charming small town New England backdrop.

I received an arc from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

No Ordinary Christmas is the first novel in the Mistletoe, Maine series. And it is a lovely second chance romance novel set during the most wonderful time of the year — Christmas.

Lucy Marshall was finally getting over heartbreak. Her high school sweetheart, Dante West, left Mistletow abruptly, leaving Lucy in a lurch. Just when she thought that they would be together forever, Dante was gone. Lucy had been ghosted.

Several years passed and Dante is back in Mistletoe. He has become a famous actor-director and is in Mistletoe to produce and film a movie. Although a blessing for the town, Lucy still can’t help but feel a little loathing at the idea that Dante was behind all the planning and production. Behind all the loathing, however, Lucy still had a heart and it still ached for Dante. Just as it ached in the past. Can Lucy forgive Dante? And can Dante ever make it up to Lucy?

No Ordinary Christmas is a feel good holiday romance novel. As such, family dynamics play a major role in the narrative. And unlike most second chance romance novels, No Ordinary Christmas does not have all of the agonizing back and forth, or the push-pull of love-hate.

The characters are wonderfully developed. But for the most part, and with the exception of Lucy and Dante, they were primarily window dressing to move the romance narrative forward.

Fabulously written, No Ordinary Christmas is a must read novel, perfect for the holidays. Five dazzling stars.

I received a finished paperback from Forever (GCP.) The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

This one has Christmas movie written ALLLLLLLL over it. A second chance romance, small town charm, and adorable characters made for a fun read. My favorite character though was the precocious little sister, who is spunky and added to the story in a wonderful way. Mistletoe, Maine was a charming setting for this Christmas book and it was positively brimming with holiday cheer. I loved the small town librarian aspect, and found Lucy to be an incredibly likable character. This was feel good and utterly adorable, perfect to curl up with a mug of hot cocoa in front of the Christmas tree with. My thanks to the publisher for sending me a gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

Holiday Buddy Read with my bestie Chelsea

This was a cute, fast read for the Holidays. It's set in the North East, which is one of my favorite settings for any media I consume.

Lucy and Dante were cute, but I wish we would've had flashback scenes. I understand maybe it would've made the book longer and this is a cute short Christmas read, but I would've loved to see more of them in the before in order to feel their feelings and believe in their love more.

If you're looking for a cute and quick book to read by the fireplace with a hot cocoa in hand while Christmas Jazz music is playing on the background, this one is a top contender. Plus, the companion novel to it comes out in June following Lucy's older sister during the Summer, so there is a Summer read!

Author Belle Calhoune knows how to write romance, and she definitely reeled me in with this delightful new book that follows librarian Lucy Marshall and the other residents of Mistletoe, Maine, as they get ready for an exciting event. Their town has been chosen as the setting for a new movie, and the star is none other than a former resident who's now a Hollywood star. Dante West is back in town, and he's the same Dante who left Lucy with a broken heart so many years ago! What will happen when they see each other again?

There are so many reasons that I enjoyed this book. Mistletoe, Maine seems very special, and I loved reading about the annual tradition of lighting a big Christmas tree in the town square, and all of the other preparations that go along with the holidays. There are several intriguing characters, including a librarian and a movie star who's made some wrong choices. Dante has a lot of fences to mend, but it's apparent that he sincerely wants to repair his fractured relationships with both Lucy and his brother Troy. Lucy is sweet, stubborn, and she's held on to her hurts, but she's smart enough to realize that she still has romantic feelings for Dante. Their chemistry is strong, the kisses are certainly swoon-worthy, but can a movie star be content to remain in a small town in Maine? If Lucy lets down her guard, will she be hurt again?

As I read No Ordinary Christmas, I could envision this as a Hallmark holiday movie, and I tried to cast the right actors to portray Lucy and Dante! If you enjoy Hallmark movies, second-chance romances, and small town dynamics, you will certainly want to read No Ordinary Christmas. It's a great way to get into the Christmas spirit!

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a favorable review, and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts.

Most of Mistletoe, Maine is excited to welcome back local Dante West. Now a famous movie star, Dante’s back to film an upcoming movie that is dear to his heart. Dante has a lot of fences to mend, including Lucy, the girl he left behind. However, Lucy isn’t exactly happy to see her childhood friend and first love after he left without a word of goodbye all those years ago. When Dante proposes using the library where Lucy works as head librarian, Lucy can’t reject the generous offer. As filming starts and the holiday nearing, Lucy and Dante begin to reconnect. Can they put the past behind them and give their love a second chance?

I’ve been loving the holiday romances this year, and No Ordinary Christmas ticked so many of my favorite boxes. A small town, second chance romance with great characters and a lot of charm, this is a sweet and heartwarming read. The story has great messages and highlights the power of friendship, community, family, and love.

Lucy and Dante are well-developed and interesting protagonists. I love that Lucy is the town’s librarian – best job ever!! Lucy has strong ties to Mistletoe, and her relationships, especially the one she has with her sister, are fantastic. She’s the type of person who does what’s best for others even if it’s not what she wants, and this is definitely the case when she agrees to work with Dante.

Dante has a lot to make up for when it comes to Lucy. He wounded her deeply when he left without a word, and I don’t think he realizes how much that affected her and the others he left behind. I enjoyed how they slowly begin to reconnect and deal with the complicated past they have, and I like that Dante realizes the mistakes he made and tries to make amends. He shows how sincere and regretful he is in many touching ways, and Lucy finds him difficult to resist. They share a long history, and even though their paths are very different, they still connect on a deep level. Their chemistry is so swoon-worthy, and it’s palpable from their very first encounter!

Mistletoe, Maine is a charming town and is brimming with the holiday spirit. It sounds like such a special place, and I love all of the community events and gatherings they have. It reminds me of the type of town you’d see in a Hallmark Christmas movie, and it’s a romantic and festive setting for Lucy and Dante’s love story. If you like Hallmark movies or books that have wonderful characters, small-town charm, and a second-chance romance, then you should check this book out.

As this was my first introduction to Belle Calhoune I went into this one blind, but ended it completely surprised. No Ordinary Christmas is a truly classic Christmas tale, one that is made up of family, friendship, and sweet love. It's a clean romance, features my very favorite trope of second chance love, and is filled to the brim with emotions.

No Ordinary Christmas follows Lucy and Dante, two former friends and lovers, as the holiday season brings them back together. Dante, a hearthrob in the Hollywood scene, wants to try his hand at directing and his first movie is his version of the events that brought a divide between he and Lucy years ago. Of course, his movie ends in love, but Lucy seems completely adverse to that idea. Luckily, her heart is involved and battles it out with her brain over protecting herself or giving in to the love she's always harbored.

Set in Mistletoe, Maine, a place I'd love to visit, No Ordinary Christmas is a love story set in the most perfect Christmas setting and somehow manages to not be too Christmasy. It's literally my exact type of read, with no over the top holiday fluff, but truly natural interactions that would happen in every day life. Okay, everyday life if your former love was now a big famous celebrity. Belle Calhoune brings the town, the people, and the romance to life and I found myself totally enthralled with this book. I could absolutely read it again and again (and at any time of the year, too).

Appealing, tender, and sweet!

No Ordinary Christmas is a big-hearted, second-chance romance that takes you into the life of the kind, considerate, librarian extraordinaire Lucy Marshall as her world gets turned upside down when her ex-boyfriend turned famous movie star, Dante West, stirs up long-buried feelings when he suddenly returns home to film his latest movie after being away for eight-and-a-half years.

The writing is whimsical and light. The characters are charismatic, genuine, and endearing. And the plot is an engaging mix of heart, humour, family, friendship, nostalgic moments, attraction, chemistry, spirited shenanigans, movie magic, and a little Christmas cheer.

Overall, No Ordinary Christmas is a playful, charming, heartwarming holiday tale by Calhoune that is a fantastic start to the Mistletoe, Maine series with characters you can’t help but root for and a happy-ever-after ending that leaves you wanting more.

Love reading Christmas books! This one didn't disappoint. It was a good story about remembering the past but also being able to let go and forgive. It was easy to relate to what a lot of the characters were going through and their struggles. Great read that had me hooked from page one.

Thank you to Forever for gifting me a copy of No Ordinary Christmas by Belle Calhoune. Oh this was such a sweet second-chance love story and definitely just what I needed as we head into Christmas time. Now if only I could visit the town of Mistletoe in real life...

Lucy Marshall works at the local library in Mistletoe and let's just say she is less than thrilled (and more than a little anxious) when her first love and former-best-friend Dante West comes back to town. Eight and a half years ago he left Mistletoe, and her, for the bright lights of Hollywood. Dante is back in town, and Lucy has no choice but to be around him because he's making a sizable donation to the library in return for being allowed to film there.

They quickly realize that their spark has never actually been snuffed out, and no one knows them like they know each other. There is definitely something to be said for shared history. But will this time end in disaster too, or can they learn to trust each other again?

I loved all the characters, and the town, so much. This was such a cozy and delightful read.

Hi Hallmark Channel, I found your next book to movie adaptation! Seriously though this was adorable and would be the cutest Christmas movie. Second chance romance usually has to be pretty special for me to enjoy it and I definitely was won over here. I liked that Dante is now a celebrity who wants to give back to the community he grew up in by filming his new movie in his hometown, I mean how fun is that?! Lucy is a librarian and I pretty much liked her based on that alone, but she was super endearing as well. The town itself was depicted beautifully, think I could convince my entire family to spend Christmas back east in some little small town with a giant Christmas tree in the town square?! This was more sweet than sexy and super cozy, definitely best read with some hot chocolate by a fire while it’s snowing outside! Also my first from the author but I’m checking out her backlist ASAP. It was also the first book I listened to that was narrated by Mela Lee or Tre Hall and I applaud the use of two narrators, they were both great!

Belle Calhoune’s No Ordinary Christmas takes place in Mistletoe, Maine during the holiday season. It’s the BEST second chance romance that I have read all year! I loved the small town setting, the storyline and characters.
Head librarian Lucy Marshall is drawn to the scene taking place on the town square in front of the library. Everyone in Mistletoe has gathered to see Dante West, the hometown hero who is a movie star. Everyone but Lucy. Dante broke Lucy’s heart when he left town without saying a word. She’s held onto her anger and can’t seem to move forward.
Love the author’s voice and that she is able to describe each one of the characters so vividly. She is able to portray Lucy’s feelings so the reader fells compassion not pity for her. Dante wants to make things right with his brother Troy and Lucy. Dante was not perfect and his actions hurt his family and Lucy. Dante’s determination to make things right won me over.
Loved the secondary characters. Lucy’s sisters Stella and Tess (she’s a hoot!) are an integral part of the story as they offer emotional support to her. I liked that the sisters were close and that they wanted to protect Lucy. Tess’s scene stealing added lots of laughter to the storyline. Dante’s best friend Nick and his son Miles tugged at my heartstrings and I am hoping to read their story very soon.
The chemistry between Lucy and Dante still sizzles after eight years. Belle Calhoune writes an exceptional story for this couple – their journey is not easy and it’s filled with a mix of emotion, heartache and passion. No Ordinary Christmas has it all- a determined hero, a stubborn heroine, great secondary characters and the perfect blend of romance and conflict.
I highly recommend No Ordinary Christmas – it is an engaging story of compassion and the capacity to forgive—hallmarks of the holiday season.

No Ordinary Christmas definitely got me into the wintery spirit. The only thing that kind of annoyed me was the actual main characters. Yeah, they were cute at times but they were more annoying than anything. It's like they were trying to frustrate me on purpose.

Like, I get it - things didn't end perfectly before someone left to go be famous or whatever. Then he comes back into your life and your whole day has been ruined. Not in the mood to deal with anything, assumptions escalate until the truth eventually comes out. Then the drama knocks you off your feet and your back on the run away from love.

To say things were a bit overdramatic for me is an understatement. Yes, it gave me those Hallmark Movie vibes and it honestly wouldn't surprise me if this ever becomes a movie either. I just wished that I liked one of the characters before we reached the very last page.

In the end, the romance had its cute moments but I think some more holiday spirit.

What a cute small town second chance romance all around Christmas time!! Definitely gives off Hallmark vibes and is the perfect holiday read! Dante left 8 years ago to pursue his acting career leaving Lucy behind completely heartbroken. 8 years later he comes back into town to shoot a movie that he is the director of and wants to make things right between him and Lucy as well as his brother Troy. From there we watch things unfold, unsaid feelings come out, past hurts get said, things get raw and real, but in the end everyone gets there happily ever after! So cute!! Pick this up!!

This was a lighthearted, second-chance romance that I hoped my Hallmark-loving heart would enjoy. The setting of Mistletoe was lovely with its charming shops amidst the snow. It had the perfect cozy feel for a holiday romance.

But unfortunately, while I loved the heroine Lucy and her passion towards the library, I didn’t love this romance. After Dante left Lucy with a broken heart eight and a half years ago, the successful actor is now back in Mistletoe filming a movie. While I think the romance was sweet, their connection from the past didn’t feel developed enough for me.

With a lot of their feelings told rather than shown, I struggled to believe the chemistry that remained throughout the years. And considering the reason Dante left without even a simple goodbye, I hoped for more grovelling from him. Overall a cute story, but it lacked a spark for me.

Belle Calhoune’s No Ordinary Christmas takes place in the small fictional town of Mistletoe, Maine, four weeks before Christmas. This is a second chance romance that includes redemption, forgiveness, and family.

Lucy Marshall and Dante West were best friends before they started dating in high school. They made plans and dreams together. Dante wanted to be a Hollywood star, and Lucy wanted to company him to Los Angeles and attend UCLA. Lucy’s dreams and heart were shattered when Dante abruptly left Mistletoe for Hollywood, without asking her to come with him, leaving her only a brief note with no explanation. It’s now been eight and a half years. Dante is a huge action movie star, Lucy is the head librarian for Misteltoe’s Free Library. This Christmas, Dante returns to Mistletoe for an extended stay, while he films his latest movie in and around town.

I became a fan of Belle's after reading Alaskan Christmas Redemption, the third book in her Home to Owl Creek series. I loved the way she made me invested in the characters and the way she transported me to the Alaskan town. I'm happy to say the same can be said for No Ordinary Christmas. I could picture vividly the town of Mistletoe, Maine.

I immediately loved the characters of Lucy and Dante. My heart really went out to both of them, for what they endured and the time they lost. Fans of Belle's faith based stories will also love this story. While there's no mention of faith, the story is still clean and wholesome. I loved that there wasn’t this overabundance of small-town nosiness and gossip. Oh, it's there, but it's done in a caring way, and not an overly pushy way. The secondary characters are all good, and deserving of their own stories and happily ever afters. Lucy’s younger sister, Tess, steals any and every scene she’s in. No Ordinary Christmas embodies what I love about Christmas romances; friends, family, second chances, and the belief that anything and everything is possible, especially at Christmastime.

It’s not another ordinary Christmas in Mistletoe, Maine this year when the small town’s native-turneed-Hollywood-superstar comes rolling back into town to film his latest movie. However, his ex-girlfriend Lucy isn’t so happy to see him as the rest of the town is as he left her high and dry the last time she saw him several years prior.

This was a sweet novel that just needed a bit of tweaking. There was a lot of repetition and stating the obvious that distracted me from what would have been a perfect Hallmark novel. However, if you are able to push through all that, you will find a town full of big hearted characters and I can see all the adorable potential stories that will be coming down the pipeline in the series.

I was glad there was not a lot of miscommunication between the protagonists (although, there is one big instance of this in the story), which aggravates me in typical romance novels. Dante and Lucy were a cute couple but I didn’t feel a big connection to them and I am unsure of why that is.

On the other hand, Lucy’s younger Tess won over my heart with her cuteness/nosey attitude and I hope that she makes an appearance in future books in the series.

Overall, I did enjoy the story but I felt that the repetition of thoughts took away from the charm of the book.

Thank you Forever for the arc. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Second chance romance has long been one of my favorite tropes. I love the hope, redemption, and belief that we can get things right if given another opportunity. This book pairs second chance romance with all the merry and bright feelings of small town Christmas celebrations in a way that magnifies both and feels incredibly special.

Dante left his hometown in Mistletoe, Maine for Hollywood and left Lucy behind as well. Eight years later, he is a big action star and the Sexiest Man Alive, and Lucy is the town's head librarian. Now he's back to film a movie.

For me, what makes a second chance romance work is when the couple really grows and digs in to whatever caused the problem in the first place. This book goes deep. It also has emotional scenes that acknowledge that Christmas isn't an easy time for everyone. And it has an excellent cast of secondary characters (who I have been mentally pairing off, as this is the start of a series).

I really enjoyed this, both as a Christmas book, and as a romance.

Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.

3 Stars

This had a really nice start, but it slowed down towards the middle with its numerous holiday romance cliches. One on top of the other with the final straw at 85% (not necessarily a holiday cliche) I would have been much happier if the conflict continued to revolve around the hero's need to rectify his past mistakes, rather than devolving into something contrived.

The writing was great and I liked the characters, but sadly so much of the content felt overused.

Eight and a half years ago, Dante West broke Lucy’s heart.
They’d been best friends as children and by the time they were sixteen they were dating. They’d been a huge part of each other’s lives until the day Dante left seemingly out of the blue.

Dante always planned to go to California and pursue his dream of becoming an actor but he promised to take Lucy with him. Instead, he left alone and left her a note saying he’d be in touch. It took months before he called her and by that point she was too furious to speak to him.

In the years that have passed, Dante became a huge celebrity. He’s an incredibly success action star.
Lucy has stayed in her beloved hometown of Mistletoe, where both of their families still live.

Dante comes back to Mistletoe to film a movie. But one of his biggest reasons for coming back is to mend fences. He wants a second chance with Lucy (as a friend at the very least) and he needs to apologize to his brother.

Lucy wants nothing to do with him at first. But he offers her a deal she can’t decline. She’s the head librarian and the library could really use some extra money. Dante offers a large amount of money to the library in order to let him film some scenes there.

Soon enough, Lucy and Dante are spending time together again. Will they get a second chance at love?

With a second chance romance, I think it’s important that the reason the couple broke up is something they’ll be able to move beyond. I did feel that was the case her but I honestly think they could have gotten back together years earlier if Dante had made an effort before so much time had passed.
So, while I think the reason for the breakup as forgivable I was more upset that these two let so darn much time pass. That’s the part I don’t understand. His family still lives in this town for goodness sakes, it would feel like he not only broke Lucy’s heart but then actively avoided her for almost a decade.
They’re likable characters but their pride got in their way a few times.

I got to read an early ebook edition from NetGalley. Thanks!

Lucy and Dante have a history. They've known each other since childhood and have those special bonds that people have when knowing someone that long! However, when that relationship turned to a romantic one when they were teenagers, they thought it would be forever. Dante had a dream of being an actor in Hollywood and one day, he just left with no goodbye. It broke Lucy's heart to the point that she never got over it. Suddenly, Dante is back after almost 9 years. He's a Hollywood superstar and Lucy wants nothing to do with him. She has suffered enough. Dante is back in his hometown to make a movie and hopefully, make amends to all the people he hurt.
The Maine town in this book is written vividly and so descriptively! The author did a magnificent job of dragging the reader into the small town and making them a part of this special place. Lucy is a strong, independent woman who loves her family and her town. She wasn't going to let Dante pull her into another relationship again. Dante also loved his family but he has issues with them that needed to be resolved. I felt for him as he went around and tried to make his amends. That wouldn't have been easy to do! I connected with Lucy from the very beginning! How heartbreaking it would be to have such strong dreams and have them crushed and then have them effect your life for nearly a decade! I don't know why I didn't really connect with Dante. I know he was sincere in his desire to right his wrongs, especially make things up to Lucy, but I just never felt strongly about his character. I'm sure it was just me! I loved Lucy's younger sister, Tess! She was such a fun spark in the story! I look forward to other books in this series.

Christmas in Maine?? Sign me up! And even better the heroine is a librarian . It's almost like this book was written for me. I love a second chance romance, and Lucy and Dante's story was so sweet. There is a ton of Christmas cheer in this book and a romance that will warm you up on a cold winter's evening. Add this one to your Christmas TBR!

Mistletoe, Maine, is buzzing and not just because Christmas is around the corner! Dante West, local cutie-turned-Hollywood hunk, is returning home to make his next movie. Everyone in town is excited . . . except librarian Lucy Marshall. When Dante took off for LA without warning—or even a goodbye—he broke Lucy’s heart. She swore not to spend one more minute thinking about her ex, but Dante makes an offer Lucy’s struggling library can’t refuse: a major donation to film on-site.

Dante is thrilled to help boost his hometown’s economy and finally begin making amends to the people he hurt years ago when he left, starting with Lucy. But seeing his former best friend on set every day feels a lot less like closure and more like a fresh start. It’s one thing for Dante to fall for Lucy all over again, quite another for a famous movie star and a small-town librarian to find lasting romance. Can the magic of the holiday season give Lucy and Dante’s first love a second chance?

No Ordinary Christmas was the Christmas read my heart was looking for. Set in the cute New England town of Mistletoe, we’re introduced to Lucy, who works as the town’s librarian and is less than pleased when her ex-boyfriend and Hollywood star Dante West returns to down to film a movie. I’m not going to go into more of the plot than that, but I’ll say that this is a plot that’s fit to be a Christmas romance film.

I loved these characters. I found Lucy particularly relatable, and I loved the relationship that she had with her youngest sister. Dante is a great male lead who’s not only an attractive movie star but has a sensitive side as well. This was a second-chance romance that I really enjoyed, and the setting only added to this. I’m excited to see what comes next in the Mistletoe series, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next book in this series.

This book is a great choice for fans of Hallmark Christmas movies and Christmas romances.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A movie star Dante West returns to his childhood home of Mistletoe, Maine to film a romance film. While he's in town Dante hopes to rekindle connections with his family and his high school sweetheart, Lucy Marshall. Lucy isn't sure what to make of Dante when he arrives again in Mistletoe. The last time she saw Dante was when he left down leaving her heartbroken in the process. As Dante and Lucy begin spending more time together as his filming begins, they begin to rekindle long lost feelings. Little does Lucy know for Dante those feelings were never lost and he's regretted leaving her years ago.

As you can tell No Ordinary Christmas is a second chance romance set at Christmastime. I liked the idea of the novel but the execution fell short for me. I didn't feel like a lot happened throughout the novel. It's predictable but that wasn't the problem for me. I wanted a little more actions/unresolved feelings but everything was tied up pretty quickly leaving a lot of the story left to finish. No Ordinary Christmas is the first in a series set in Mistletoe, Maine and Belle Calhoune sets up who will be in the next book.

Thank you to Forever and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. No Ordinary Christmas will be available on September 28th.

Ahhh this second chance romance was a breath of fresh air. Literally, fresh Mistletoe, Maine air. ☺️ When hot shot Dante West shows up back in town, Lucy is left reeling from the last time she saw him -8 1/2 years ago. They had plans for forever but he left without even saying goodbye. Dante is trying to make amends with the people he hurt but breaking through Lucy’s wall is going to be tricky. Lucy, the local librarian, has an image to uphold and needs to focus on what’s best for the library. When Dante comes dangling a large sum of her money for her library in front of her face, can she really say no if it’s to benefit the library and community?

I loved this town so much. From the tree decorating and parades to the friends who turned into family. Everyone in this town was so thoughtful and there for one another, it really felt like a Hallmark romance unfolding before my eyes. As a matter of fact, I think this needs to BE a Hallmark Christmas movie! I am looking forward to the next installment in this series -coming summer 2022!
