Trevor Noah to replace Jon Stewart as 'Daily Show' host

Comedy Central has found Jon Stewart’s replacement.

Daily Show correspondent Trevor Noah will take over hosting duties from Stewart, Comedy Central announced today. Noah joined the show late in 2014, and has only made three appearances on The Daily Show since he became a correspondent. Even so, Comedy Central’s president Michele Ganeless voiced strong support for the 31-year-old comedian.

“Trevor Noah is an enormous talent. He has an insightful and unique point of view, and most importantly, is wickedly funny,” she said in a statement.

Stewart announced the imminent end of his Daily Show run earlier this year.

“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with,” Stewart said of Noah’s selection in a statement. “In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”

While Noah’s current library of Daily Show appearances is thin, the comedian’s longer stand-up comedy history can give viewers a better sense of the future host’s style. Noah also hosted a late-night talk show in his native country, South Africa.

“It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world,” Noah said Monday in a statement.

No date was announced for when Noah will take over at The Daily Show desk, and Stewart has not yet announced when his final show will air.
