Pearson, Hanson help Alabama State down Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, Miss.— Darryl Pearson ran for a touchdown, Hunter Hanson kicked three field goals, and Alabama State held Mississippi Valley State to 11 yards rushing to win 16-10 on Saturday.

Pearson scored on a 3-yard run five plays after the defense got a fourth-and-4 stop on the MVSU 28 when Daniel McGhie dropped Ruben Piraquive for a 13-yard loss on the Delta Devils' opening drive.

Hanson kicked field goals of 48 and 40 yards and the Hornets (4-6, 3-3 Southland) led 13-3 at halftime. He added a 39-yarder in the third quarter.

The Hornets held the Delta Devils (2-9, 1-6) to 179 yards of total offense and 6 of 16 third-down conversions. Ronnie Scott intercepted a pass by Jett Even and the defense got four sacks.

Even hit Quinn McElfresh on a 19-yard pass in the fourth quarter for MVSU's only TD. Nicholas Jacque kicked a 29-yard field goal.

The Hornets host Edward Waters in the Turkey Day Classic at 2 p.m. Thursday at ASU Stadium.
