Miami-Dade police officer accused of attacking estranged husband

Yaeliz Wilt, 36, punched, choked husband, police say

MIAMI ā€“ A Miami-Dade police officer is facing multiple domestic-violence charges after assaulting her estranged husband, police said.

Yaeliz Wilt, 36, is charged with false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation and battery.

According to the arrest report, Wilt let herself into the home she used to reside in with her husband and children on Monday.

After getting in an argument with the victim, Wilt followed him into the bedroom and started punching him in the head, police said.

Authorities said Wilt blocked the doorway, not allowing the victim to leave the room.

Police said Wilt's husband turned away from her at one point, at which time she bit him on the top of the head, then grabbed his necklace from behind and pulled it, causing him toĀ  have trouble breathing.

Police said the victim suffered bruising around his neck.

Wilt was granted pre-trial release in bond court Tuesday.
