Tony Barbee's trip to Nevada didn't last long.

The former Auburn coach has removed his name from consideration at Nevada, where the school is looking for a new head coach, according to Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com.

Barbee never appeared to be a legitimate candidate, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman, who reports the interview was nothing more than a "favor" from athletics director Doug Knuth.

Barbee will remain on Kentucky's bench as mentor John Calipari's special assistant.

Barbee was 49-75 overall and 18-50 in the SEC during his four seasons as the Auburn's head coach. He was fired in March 2014 and replaced by Bruce Pearl.

Nevada fired coach David Carter following a 9-22 season, the fourth losing season in the last five seasons.

Barbee made headlines last week when it was revealed his recruiting budget at Auburn ranked in the top 5 nationally. The Tigers never had a winning season on his watch.
