The Wild West

For a really interesting experience of the Wild West, we loved spending a day out exploring the five sections of the Buffalo Bill museum right in Cody! Their incredible exhibits included the Draper National History Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Plains Indian Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, and of course, it's namesake, the Buffalo Bill Museum!  We loved them all!

One exhibit was a rather fascinating one about guns, both part of their own collection and on loan from the Smithsonian, it is the one of the largest collections of firearms in the world.

Enjoying all the interesting exhibits, the people too were incredibly kind!  Little did we know we came on homeschool day!

"Because I do!"
"To go to work. I love my job!"

An enormous map of the world nearly covered an entire wall in the Buffalo Bill exhibit, each pin marking a place where the Wild West Show came to town!

While we haven’t been able to find any other documentation besides our own estimations from the map, it looks like Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show just may have come pretty close to our home town!

"Because I can!"

We honestly haven’t had the most spectacular experiences with tumbleweeds, as you might recall, but we were surprised to see that someone had taken one of our most frightening enemies and made it into a work of art!

The two levels of firearms exhibits included beautifully embossed pieces (including a firearm where the wood had been fashioned into Abraham Lincoln’s face), pieces of historical significance (a firearm made for JFK, which tragically was not completed until right after his death), and even international treasures!

This Russian Jaeger Flintlock Rifle was fashioned for the Empress of Russia, Catherine the Great, in 1730. The velvet cheek piece was inlaid into the stock so that her delicate cheek would not have to rest directly on the firearm.

We’ve been wanting to see a moose ever since we saw signs for them in Maine! And while the moose was stuffed, and lacking a body, we did get to see 25% of one in the museum!

"To go to work."
"To shut off that annoying alarm!!"

We tried to get a picture of the vivacious moon that lit up our last night in Wyoming, and while the darkness has enveloped most of the beauty, you’re still able to see a glimpse of the quiet vastness of this state.

"Because I love morning, and to see what God has in store for me each day!"
"To feed the horses and thank God for all our blessings."

Thank you ever so much to our Wyoming family!  We had a grand time exploring, sharing stories, and visiting your wonderful state!

To the beauty of God's creation.

Love,
The Crew
