Finding Profit Speaker John Shank

John Shank is a founding member of Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith, LLC (BMSS). He works primarily with companies with revenue from $5 million to $50 million, in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, wholesale distribution, service, software, med-tech and finance. He has extensive experience with not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities. In his capacity as a strategic business partner, he works with his clients in all areas of their financial and operational needs, such as cash flow, strategic acquisitions, transition planning, insurance and estate planning needs, as well as traditional financial statement and corporate and personal income tax planning and compliance.

John serves as the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) council representative for Al- abama; he is a Past Chair of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA), and prior to being elected to the state council, he held the offices of President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Birmingham Chapter of the ASCPA. John serves on the three-person executive committee at BMSS and in his administra- tive capacity he is primarily responsible for managing the firm’s human resource and personnel issues.

Previously he served as Corporate Chair of the Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run and on the UAB Accounting Advisory Board, the Huntingdon College Alumni Board, the Birmingham Boys Choir Board, and the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Alabama Board. He has been awarded “Who’s Who in Law and Accounting” and “Top 40 Under 40” by the Birmingham Business Journal.
