Florida State and Auburn are discussing a neutral site game for the 2018 season, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The schools are "in the early stages of working out a game," according to the report, which cites an anonymous source. Attempts by AL.com to reach Auburn officials were not immediately successful Saturday.

The game will be played in Jacksonville if a contract is signed, according to the report.

If scheduled, the game would be a rematch of the 2014 BCS National Championship in which Florida State rallied in the final 13 seconds to beat Auburn 34-31. The Tigers and Seminoles have not met in the regular season since 1990, when the Tigers won 20-17 inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn leads the series 13-5-1.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher was a quarterbacks coach and coordinator at Auburn from 1993 through 1998.

The game would certainly rekindle memories of one of the mid-south's best rivalries of the 1980s.

The SEC has tasked its programs to schedule at least one non-conference Power 5 team each season. The Tigers are scheduled to play Louisville (2015), Clemson (2016, 2017) and Cal (2020, 2021) in the future. Power 5 teams have not been scheduled yet for 2018 and 2019.
