Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith to headline hurricane benefit at Civic Center

Special to the Democrat
Jimmy Buffett

As beach bum bard Jimmy Buffett sang on his 1974 album “A1A,” it hurts your brain when “Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season.”

That’s particularly fitting considering the devastating hurricane season of 2017, so far.

Buffett, 70, is returning to Tallahassee with pals Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and the Coral Reefer Band in tow on Nov. 19 for a special “Trying to Reason ...” benefit concert in The Tucker Civic Center. Proceeds will go to help communities in Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean islands that were battered by storms. The tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27. There is a limit of eight tickets per customer. Call 850-583-7841 or visit www.tuckerciviccenter.com.

“The ticket prices haven’t been released yet,” Tucker Civic Center Marketing Director Allison Dobin said in an email on Friday afternoon. “Hoping to get those released soon.”

It’s been five years since Buffett hit the stage at The Tucker Civic Center. The Mayor of Margaritaville also performed in Tallahassee when he stumped for Gwen Graham’s congressional campaign in 2014. Chesney played a sold out show at the Civic Center in 2009. The Tucker Civic Center is operated through Florida State University.

“Florida State Univeristy was fortunate to be spared from the worst of Hurricane Irma, but we know that was not the case for many of our fellow Floridians,” FSU President John Thrasher said in a statement on Friday. “We’re happy to be able to help our neighbors by hosting this benefit concert and hopefully offer some relief to those hardest hit by the storm.”

The last day of this year’s hurricane season is Nov. 30.
