Marissa has had a tough life starting with the unsolved murder of her mum and things don't improve for her over the years. Now Marissa is being stalked, has a neighbour from hell and two people she knows are murdered. I thought I knew the direction the authour was going in and was proven to be wrong . What an ending. Put What She Did on the top of your TBR pile today.

“If you did something terrible, would you tell” When Marissa finds out that her last family member has died, she also has to confront the secret she has been hiding from for all these years. Despite the fact she sometimes has blackouts, she can not accept the idea she could have had anything to do with her uncles death. But what does it mean for her when history repeats itself, right next door… What She Did is a compelling tale with a broken and damaged woman at the helm. It is an intense and suspenseful read, narrated over a duel timeline, providing insight into our leads horrific background and how that has defined her in the present. Carla Kovach does a great job of setting the scene, but for me I found this to be more of a character driven tale which I enjoyed. Marissa is so complex, her mental state fragile due to the trauma she was subjected to as a child, which really pulls on the heartstrings. At times this can be quite dark and confronting with its hard hitting themes, but they are handled as sensitively as can be without glossing over the serious nature of them. The pace is steady and the suspense is ramped up in the lead up to the finale. All up What She Did is a thrilling read with plenty of twists, turns and surprises, suited to fans of crime thrillers.

This story alternates from the present to Marissa’s past. When she was little Marissa witnessed the murder of her mother by an unknown man. After living with her horrible aunt and uncle she started her own life. But she could never get past her childhood. I enjoyed the suspense with this book. The different timelines let me learn small things and put them into the present.
