Recognizing Academic Achievement

Provincial Government Awards Scholarships to Help Students with Post-Secondary Education

Fifty-eight students have been recognized for academic excellence as they pursue their post-secondary education with $74,000 in scholarships awarded.

“I congratulate all students on receiving these scholarships in recognition of their academic achievements. The Provincial Government recognizes the value of post-secondary education for students, families, communities, and our province as a whole. Our initiatives to date have supported an affordable and accessible post-secondary education system. Student debt is falling, our graduates are successfully finding jobs within the workforce, and students who come to Newfoundland and Labrador from outside the province for their education are staying.”
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills

The Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarships are awarded by the Department of Advanced Education and Skills to students registered in a course of study at Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic. Students are chosen based on a number of criteria including the post-secondary institution in which they are enrolled, program of study and academic performance.

“In the past two years, the Provincial Government has supported 112 post-secondary students with a total of approximately $131,000 in scholarship funding. This represents another way that we are financially supporting students to continue their education in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- Minister Jackman

Other awarded scholarships include the Dr. Arthur Barnes Scholarship, Dr. William W. Blackall Scholarship, Reverend Dr. Levi Curtis Scholarship, Senior Jubilee Scholarship, Dr. Vincent P. Burke Scholarship, and the Ronald K. Kennedy Scholarship. A complete list of recipients is provided in the attached backgrounder.
