The Port of Palm Beach announced last week a new training program for its employees to help prevent human trafficking in Florida.

The program highlights the many ways employees at the seaport can identify possible cases of human trafficking and what they can do if suspicions grow.

Florida currently has the third-largest number of human trafficking cases in the nation.

To help raise awareness about this, the Port of Palm Beach will become the first seaport in Florida to adopt this video-based training.

The training is called Ports to Freedom and it is specifically designed for the Maritime industry.

The online training helps employees understand that seaports can be a key location for spotting victims of human trafficking.

In 2019, 896 Floridians were reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

Securing our seaports is just one way to help bring that number down.
