Gowdy wants to step up immigration law enforcement in U.S.

WASHINGTON — The following bills were introduced or co-sponsored by U.S. House members from South Carolina.

Rep. Gowdy introduces bill to enhance immigration law enforcement within U.S. interior

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., has introduced legislation (H.R. 1148) to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to “improve immigration law enforcement within the interior of the United States.”

The legislation was referred to the House Judiciary Committee; and House Homeland Security Committee.

• Rep. Barr introduces bill to exempt residential mortgage loans held in portfolio by originating depository institutions from certain requirements

Rep. Garland Barr, R-Ky., has introduced legislation (H.R. 1210) to amend the Truth in Lending Act to “provide a safe harbor from certain requirements related to qualified mortgages for residential mortgage loans held on an originating depository institution’s portfolio.”

Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C. is a co-sponsor. The legislation was referred to the House Financial Services Committee

Rep. Labrador introduces bill to exempt certain children employed in logging operations from child labor laws

Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1215) to “exempt certain 16- and 17-year-old children employed in logging or mechanized operations from child labor laws.”

Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C. is a co-sponsor. The legislation was referred to the House Education and the Workforce Committee.

Rep. Roe introduces bill to abolish Affordable Care Act provisions on independent payment advisory board

Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., has introduced legislation (H.R. 1190) to “repeal the provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act providing for the Independent Payment Advisory Board.”

Tom Rice, R-S.C., Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., Duncan, Joe Wilson, R-S.C., and Gowdy, are all co-sponsors. The legislation was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, House Energy and Commerce Committee and House Rules Committee.

Rep. Roe introduces bill to enhance clinical care coordination for people with diabetes conditions

Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1192) to “amend the Public Health Service Act to foster more effective implementation and coordination of clinical care for people with pre-diabetes, diabetes, and the chronic diseases and conditions that result from diabetes.”

Duncan is a co-sponsor. The legislation was referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Rep. Smith introduces bill to make mandatory requirements for use of electronic employment eligibility verification systems

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1147) to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to “make mandatory and permanent requirements relating to use of an electronic employment eligibility verification system.”

Gowdy is a co-sponsor. The legislation was referred to the House Judiciary Committee; House Ways and Means Committee; and House Education and the Workforce Committee.

Rep. Carter introduces bill to provide expedited removal of unaccompanied alien children who are not trafficking victims

Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1149) to “amend the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Re-authorization Act of 2008 to “provide for the expedited removal of unaccompanied alien children who are not victims of a severe form of trafficking in persons and who do not have a fear of returning to their country of nationality or last habitual residence.”

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1153) to “modify the treatment of unaccompanied alien children who are in Federal custody by reason of their immigration status.”

Rep. Chabot introduces bill to implement pilot program to help municipalities fulfill obligations under Federal Water Pollution Control Act

Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, has introduced legislation (H.R. 1093) to “direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to carry out a pilot program to work with municipalities that are seeking to develop and implement integrated plans to meet their wastewater and stormwater obligations under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act.”

Duncan is a co-sponsor. The legislation was referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Rep. Cartwright introduces bill to allow tax credit for payments made by spouses of armed forces members for new state licenses

Rep. Matthew Cartwright, D-Pa., has introduced legislation (H.R. 1100) to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to “allow a credit against income tax for amounts paid by a spouse of a member of the Armed Forces for a new State license or certification required by reason of a permanent change in the duty station of such member to another State.”
