The Tree Height Model is a multitalented and smart tool for #forest managers. Tree Height Models (THM) are digital maps showing true height information at high resolution for the whole forest surface. A THM reveals the horizontal and vertical stand structure, crown cover, stocking gaps and height variations. From this the true mean and top heights of stands as well as individual tree heights can be derived. THMs provide enormous benefits to forest managers: these up-to-date and comprehensive stand data (instead of outdated sample plot based forest inventory data) can reduce inventory costs by 50% through better stratification which reduces the total number of samples needed and makes those remaining samples much more representative. Even more importantly, they increase the quality of planning and help to prioritise regeneration, thinning and harvesting with significant time and cost savings. Using SKYLAB #forestAI, the 3D information contained in THM coupled with reduced terrestrial samples can provide timber and #forestrycarbon models for more precise and comprehensive inventories. #forestai #precisionforestry #droneforester

Very interesting. How are the models trained and computed/measured accuracy ?
