Preserving Our Eastern Kentucky History

Donation protected
The Lawrence County, Kentucky Genealogical and Historical Society, Inc. (LCKG&HS) provides a link to the roots of its Eastern Kentucky community and people. It assists individuals in discovering their family history and developing and maintaining relationships with others who cherish the preservation of that shared history. The Society maintains a website (www.lckghs.com) to assist genealogists; publishes the "Lawrence County Legends," a quarterly publication chronicling Lawrence County genealogical history; coordinates the Eastern Kentucky Genealogical Conference (see video of Jenny Wiley re-enactment; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhkSAywXEF0); and brings together Eastern Kentucky history and genealogy enthusiasts at quarterly meetings. Recently, the Society was permitted to re-publish the celebrated Eastern Kentucky classic, "Appalachian Crossroads," which has been out of print for over thirty years. This hard-to-find book was written by Clayton Cox and describes the descendents of Hezekiah Sellards, including his most famous family member, Jenny Wiley. Every Jenny Wiley descendent should have a copy of this amazing book. Without this republication, this classic text would evaporate into history, like so much of our cherished past.  In order to republish this important work and to continue to do the amazing historical preservation and promotion of Eastern Kentucky heritage, the Society needs to raise $6,000. Because the Society relies upon inexpensive membership ($25/year) and tax-free donations for support of all of its activities, including website, publication of the quarterly "Lawrence County Legends," and mailings to members, there is simply not enough to support the republication of this important text. Will you donate today in order to ensure that our shared Eastern Kentucky heritage will be preserved and continued to be promoted?  Please also consider becoming a member, so that you, too, can become part of a community that cares about its history and its people. For membership, contact: The Lawrence County, Kentucky Genealogical and Historical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1445, Louisa, Kentucky 41230.
