Marijuana worth more than $1M seized in Benzie Co.

Homestead Township — Investigators say they seized truckloads of marijuana worth more than $1 million in northern Michigan’s Benzie County.

The raid began Wednesday at two homes, campers and adjacent properties in Homestead Township, southwest of Traverse City. The Traverse City Record-Eagle says about 350 marijuana plants were confiscated, along with $10,000 and several guns.

Three people were arrested. Sheriff Ted Schendel says investigators were “taking dump trucks out.”

The suspects claimed they were following Michigan’s medical marijuana law, but state police Det. Sgt. Randy Graham says the amount of pot was outside the law.
