SLF 2016:  DYW and skills featured highly!

With 18 related seminars, two discussion sessions and explicit references in the keynote address by the Depute First Minister, Mr Swinney, DYW was again high on the agenda at this year’s SLF.  Read more here.

Post 16 / College news

New college quality framework
Work on the new college quality framework, and the methodology behind it, has been going well and has been approved by external stakeholders at the Scottish Funding Council.  The new framework will be shared with the group of college Associate Assessors at their annual training event in the University of Stirling on 4th October.

Careers Information Advice and Guidance (CIAG) reviews
The review of SDS CIAG services in The Highlands will be published in November. The review of Renfrewshire CIAG services will commence on 10 October.

Review of Modern Apprenticeships (MA) in Automotive Engineering

The review of MAs in Automotive Engineering will commence in October. This review considers all aspects of off-the-job training.  In future, all reviews will also consider on-the-job training activities.

New:  Work Placements Standard for Colleges

The Scottish Funding Council published this new standard in order to build on and enhance work-based learning experiences for college students across Scotland.  Access and download the standard here

Business Language Champions:  Developing skills for the world of work

A number of case studies around this SCILT initiative showcase how effective school/employer partnerships can highlight the relevancy of language skills for the world of work.  More on this initiative here.

Scotland’s Enterprising Schools  (SES) – national leadership event 26 October, Glasgow

SES, with the support of Education Scotland, will host a national event for strategic leaders in education to inspire enterprising attitudes, entrepreneurship and the development of skills for learning, life and work in learners.  More details here.

Sky Academy:  Developing skills of young people across Scotland

This free half day interactive learning experience linked to CfE gives 8 – 18 year olds the chance to produce a TV report with the latest technology available.  More on this offer here.

Labour marked information (LMI) inspires change in the Western Isles

Skills Development Scotland:  My World of Work Ambassadors Programme

This initiative provides learners with the opportunity to share their expertise of new digital career education tool My World of Work with others.  Find out more about this  programme here.

Young Enterprise Scotland: Resources for the new session 2016/17

As many of the Company Programme Teams sign up and begin their enterprise journey for 2016/2017 it is worth sharing the wonderful resources that have been produced by our partners at Kaplan UK. The YES Programme is the ultimate business experience for S5 and S6 pupils.

North East DYW Regional Group launches DYW Quality Accreditation award

This new award recognises partnerships that encourage the employment of young people and meet core standards set by the regional group based at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
