Review

"This amazingly, informative manual takes you through a concise step-by-step procedure to first realize and assess your own values and self-worth. The author uses his personal experiences in an anecdotal manner to convey situations that may occur, whether you're pursuing a career in your chosen field of study, looking to be promoted in your current job, or just looking for something brand new. The book offers helpful hints in resume' writing, interview do's & don'ts, and is "chock-full" of helpful websites to connect and guide you through your job-finding quest. I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you're job searching or not; it full of common sense advice that can simply enrich your life."--Pat Potilechio "I must thank my friend for sending me in the direction of this book. It's written by someone who has gone through unemployment and shares how not to just get through it, but thrive. It includes all areas of a job search, as well as how to find the right balance between spiritual, family, health, knowledge, relationships, financial and career. It's personal, practical, poignant and very informative on how to get started in finding your dream career path, and not just another job." --Mary K. Hougaard "Having been unemployed for 6 months, I decided to give this book a try. From the moment I started reading it, I knew this wasn't going to be your typical "Finding A Job 101" book which to be honest, I thought it would be. From the personal trials, tragedies and successes of the author, to the know-hows of communication and follow up after an interview, this book truly helps you understand your journey in life, know where you have come from, where you are now and where you want to be." --Melanie Ouellette

This is an outstanding career guide that has been updated for 2012. I have been impressed with the past editions of Mr. Rega's book but this version is much more comprehensive and is packed with many more helpful job search tips and advice. Written by a leading expert in his field, it's a book that would be beneficial to anyone who is looking for a job or has ever thought about changing careers. The book very quickly gives you insightful information about yourself that you will be able to use to mold into a career that is right for you. It's my favorite job search book for nurturing and developing career self-awareness. This is a quick read that has given me the guidance and the courage I desperately needed to advance my career. It offered a great method to help refocus my career goals and a perfect way to set new goals and make promises to myself. It helped me find the courage from within to take the necessary risks and understand what truly energized me in my work.

This book is definitely not for those who don't want to hear the truth or who are averse to doing the work that is necessary to move their life forward. I absolutely loved this book and have referred it to many of my colleagues. It was refreshing to read with many true to life career stories I was able to relate to. The author has a way of speaking to his audience in a comprehensible manner. By completing the self-guided exercises it made me feel like I finally understood what I was worth in the job world. There are no games in this book, just excellent career advice from someone who has obviously been there himself. My hat is off to you Mr. Rega, for sharing all of your many years of experience and knowledge as a recruiter and career coach. My advice is to use the time you have to read this book wisely as the exercises will become your truth. The language the author uses makes you feel that he is speaking directly to you, and knows exactly how you are feeling in all the situations you may be facing in your present job or career.

I got this book a year ago, but due to inevitable circumstances at home, I wasn't able to read it immediately. Fast forward 2014, I heard news about a possible mass layoff in my husband's company, so I got freaked out. While checking my Kindle for books to read, I was surprised and glad to see that I still have this book, How to Find a Job: When There Are No Jobs ...on my TBR List. My husband and I devoured this book, and learned a lot. We realized and learned not to devote all our time finding jobs or looking for personable bosses, but to stand up and start our own business so we can be the boss of our own. This book is really inspiring. Paul Rega's ideals in job hunting and business start-ups must be something to look upon. A highly engaging and recommended read!

I found this book to be quite a waste of time. The majority of it was the author going on about his life and how he was able to make loads of money starting his own businesses. Oh, and going on about the advice from his father (who seemed to have a fair amount of money based on some of the memories of summer homes and childhood trips). This is practically worthless for someone who doesn't want to be an entrepreneur or get into sales, and I absolutely would not want to hire someone who comes off as obnoxious and bull-headed as him. I was expecting practical advice on things like how to search, good networking strategies (not just using people for your own ends), how to query companies without going over people's heads or tricking staff (which will make you memorable in a bad way), how to write an effective cover letter and resume, and how to interview properly. I can see why he's had so many career changes, and I found this book a waste of money (even though it was free).

There was some good information in this book but I felt very bogged down by the writer’s personal story. It reads in some places more like a memoir then a book on business. I don’t mind being told about an authors personal experiences when they are used to make a point. But, this book didn't feel like that.

I must thank my friend for sending me in the direction of this book. I just read it and am so impressed with the way the information is presented. It's written by someone who has gone through unemployment and shares how not to just get through it but thrive. It includes all areas of a job search, as well as how to find the right balance between spiritual, family, health, knowledge, relationships, financial and career. It's personal, practical, poignant and very informative on how to get started in finding your dream career path, and not just another job. It is definitely a book to read and work through with all the planning guidelines on how to learn about what's really important in life and how to use you God given talents to make a real impact in the world. While my husband is the one in job search mode I think I will sit down myself and work through the exercises and see where my passion lies in balance with my abilities. A must read in this volatile economy. As his friend Whitney Green told him, "You must have faith in your intuition, believe what you want to happen will happen and be receptive to it when it does." This book will show you how to do the work to make that a reality. A must read in this volatile economy.

I downloaded this book recently when I saw it being promoted on twitter and I am very glad I did! This is a very inspirational book one of personal losses and tragedy as well as an inspirational guide on how never to give up on your dreams and pursue your chosen career. I was immediately drawn to the authors own personal story. I had so much admiration for this man who had achieved so much through his own determination to succeed. However he had to work exceptionally hard at this and through developing his own career path through his own 12 step system he not only achieved what most people dream of but he has helped thousands of people in the process. We can all gain so much by reading this book and learning from the advice that the author shares with his readers. I highly recommend this very inspirational book. Well done to the author.

At first I thought this would be another anecdote for success without the advice... the author very cleverly illustrates the need for persistence. Keep reading and rereading and rereading passages in this book. There's lots of practical and very applicable advice, but you must choose to take it, or not. Nothing is given, but all is offered.
This one has come at a good time for me... be open to the learning possibility and you will get lots out of this book. His take on knowing oneself and how to get there is very helpful!!!
