BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Erie County Legislator who was hospitalized in February is now recovering and explained more about his recent health scare.

Legislator Ted Morton, 55, says on Feb. 18 he fell victim to a seizure, which led to his admittance to the Intensive Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital. A day later he was transferred to Sister’s Hospital.

That scare saw Morton in a coma for six days and not breathing on his own. He recovered and began breathing on his own about a week later, and his family said they were grateful for all the support.

“We feel very blessed with all the well wishes and prayers and would like to give our sincere thanks for the support from everyone,” his family said.

Monday, in his first public comment since falling ill, Morton said he is facing continuing therapy and recovery, but is excited to return to his duties.

“Thank you everyone for all the prayers and thoughts the last two weeks,” Morton said. “I’m now moving to a rehabilitation facility for continued care and physical therapy. I look forward to seeing everyone once I’m fully recovered. I also want to thank all the staff at Sister’s and St. Joseph’s Hospitals for everything they did.”
