What's The Secret To Terps Basketball Success?

There aren’t many things you get perfect in life on the first go-round. It’s a rare thing. But, the University of Maryland’s women’s basketball team has done it: they finished their first Big Ten conference season with a perfect record, 18-0 against other Big Ten teams, with a 69 to 48 win over Northwestern last night. Along the way, they’ve tied the team’s single season winning streak.

The men’s basketball team hasn’t been so shabby themselves. With a win over Michigan, they finished the season undefeated at home in Big Ten play. 18,000 screaming fans probably helps. A big win at home over 5th ranked Wisconsin last week sent hundreds of them onto the court to celebrate. With March Madness just around the corner, and both of these teams playing well, we wanted to check in with a couple of reporters who’ve been following the two teams.

Daniel Popper is assistant sports editor and men’s basketball columnist for The Diamondback, the University of Maryland’s daily independent student newspaper. Ryan Baillargeon covers the women’s basketball team. They both join Tom Hall by phone from College Park.
