Hello Friend of DeakinPrime

Welcome to the first edition of The Prime Times for 2015. We are looking forward to an exciting year which I trust is off to a good start for you.

We continue to see the growth of blended learning to support the informal learning components of the 70:20:10 model. Trends of personalised, continuous, modular and flexible learning all lend themselves to the blended model. 'Blend' is used to describe a disparate range of program designs but at DeakinPrime we take a holistic approach that embraces informal on-the-job learning integrated into an organisation's workflow. Our lead article is by Charles Jennings, recognised as a world thought leader in using 70:20:10 as a strategic model for effective learning implementation and change management. We are extremely pleased to be hosting Charles as our guest in March, when he will spend time with DeakinPrime clients exploring how the 70:20:10 model can be used effectively and sustainably embed learning in the daily workflow.

Deakin's leadership in digital learning was acknowledged with a prestigious international award for the best innovation in Oceania, based on the success of our first Massive Open Online Course (developed in partnership with DeakinPrime), and the subsequent development of pioneering digital learning environments across the University. Our event program for the year kicks off with Professor Beverley Oliver, Deakin's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), who is leading the University’s digital learning frontier agenda. Beverley will share her thoughts on innovations in digital learning. Deakin are also doing some world first work with IBM’s Watson platform. Watch this space―Watson has the capacity to fundamentally transform learning.

Best regards
