How to custom build Grow box Furniture

Posted

How do you build custom grow box furniture? Any way you want to, of course! But here are some guidelines that can come in handy when you're trying to really go out on a limb and set up your own hydro designs for integrating this kind of innovative gear into areas of a home or office space.

Look at Spatial Concerns

One of the very first aspects of design is the size and shape of your hydroponics grow box. For furniture, it has to conform to those ideas that we have about comfort and how we like to structure chairs, tables and other pieces of furniture. For example, there is often a leg to floor ratio that determines the exact height of things like tables, sofas, chairs, divans, loveseats and loungers. Figure these elements into your hydroponics furniture design.

Keep Access in Mind

Lots of hydro systems have lock and key features that enable access by growers. Growers have to be able to get inside the box to deal with things like pH value, temperature and humidity for plants, pruning, and sometimes supplemental feeding. Simply put, you're going to be reaching inside of your plant pots many times during a crop cycle, so design doors and other apertures that allow for easy access, without leaving hydro systems open to tampering.

Air-Handling Equipment

Almost any hydroponic system is going to need vents and areas for fans to direct air in and out of the space. Stagnant air is supremely unhealthy for plants. It's very important to build in air handling as well as water handling into the overall design of a “hydroponic piece of furniture.”

Visuals

With all of those functional elements in place, you're going to want to look at how your hydroponics grow box, integrated with your piece of furniture, is going to look. Some designers like to show off the hydroponic garden by creating clear glass systems where visitors can see plants growing. Others like to create what we call ‘stealth systems’ -- and retailers actually sell grow boxes like this. A hydro system can mimic a piece of furniture effectively, so that no one knows that there are actually plants growing in the room. Another important piece of equipment is an odor filter, that comes with a lot of innovative hydroponic grow boxes. This helps make sure that no one will suspect that there are plants growing inside a piece of furniture.
