'Duck Dynasty' patriarch Phil Robertson says 'Roy Moore is trying his best'

"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson expressed his support for Judge Roy Moore during a speaking event in Montgomery on Friday night, saying that the Alabama chief justice had the right idea when it comes to the Ten Commandments.

Robertson, along with family members Kay and Alan Robertson, was in Montgomery for a speaking engagement hosted by Compassion21 at Frazer United Methodist Church that  attracted a crowd of fans eager to meet the stars of the A&E series.

Robertson read frequently from the bible during his time on stage and covered a wide range of topics, including Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore and his battle to keep a monument of the Ten Commandments at the judicial building.

"Roy Moore is trying his best," said Robertson. "They said get rid of the Ten Commandments in the courthouse. ... Here's my take, and I'm just an old redneck, but if you're gonna end up at the courthouse if you violate any of the Ten Commandments then that might be a good place to put 'em. Roy Moore knows that."

In addition, Robertson, 68, said the Ten Commandments are a guiding light in understanding how the crimes of today's world and throughout history are a part of an organized evil plaguing modern society.

"Organized evil, that's what we're up against," said Robertson. "...you want to know why people drive jet airplanes into buildings? Why would they do that? Why would they behead people, burn people, rape people, practice perversion, legislate perversion and make it legal? Why in the world would they do that? They're under the control of the evil one."

Robertson's eldest son, Alan, who made his first appearance on "Duck Dynasty" during the season four premiere, also spoke to attendees, but covered the lighter topic of what it's like to be the beardless member of the famous family.

"I shave, I bathe regularly," said Robertson. "I love my brothers, but when you look at us together, who looks this most normal? I just look like I wandered into a homeless shelter."

Since the launch of "Duck Dynasty" A&E, the Robertson family has gained popularity among conservatives and religious groups thanks to their vocal support of  maintaining a Christian lifestyle. On Friday morning, the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference awarded  Robertson the Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award.

"We had to come see Miss. Kay and brother Phil," said Terry Carden, who attending the event on Friday. "We have admired the stand he has taken for family and God for years."
