Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Party Highlights

The expansion of Carter Cutlery's showroom and shop space ribbon cutting ceremony for Murray and the Carter Cutlery team went off without a hitch! Murray used one of his damascus kitchen knives to cut the ribbon. Steve Callaway, the Mayor of Hillsboro, and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce were on-hand for the festivities on Friday, January 12, 2018.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Grand Opening Party on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Fun was had by all and we truly appreciated spending time with you! The knife Murray forged was a hit for the knife cutting activities, where kids and adults tried their luck at cutting three different items "cleanly". Winners won Carter Cutlery t-shirts! We loved hosting all of you and thank you for your patronage!

Frequently Asked Questions

More great questions from Carter Cutlery fans! Here's another collection of some of them with Murray's answers. Keep sending them in and subscribe to our newsletter so you don't miss out on all the things happening here at the forge!

Question: Do you touch up the blade with stropping motions on the 6000 stone every once in a while? Or do you always go back to the 1000 stone?

Answer: Since one stropping motion on a 1000 grit stone is worth 20 on the finer 6000 grit stone, it usually saves time in the long run to just start with a few careful strokes on the rougher stone before transitioning to the finer stone for regular touch-ups. The whole process should take less than a minute.
