Following his Oscar win for The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne is taking on another historical role that requires him to transform himself. Working Title tweeted a photo of Redmayne in The Danish Girl playing transgender woman Lili Elbe, an artist who had sexual reassignment surgery in the early 1930s.

The film, which is based on the novel by David Ebershoff, is a reunion between Redmayne and his Les Misérables director Tom Hooper. No word as to whether Hooper will use extreme close-ups this time around. Alicia Vikander plays Elbe’s wife Gerda.

In November, Redmayne spoke to E! about his research for the role, explaining, “even though it is period and under completely different circumstances than today, I’m meeting many women from the trans community and hearing their experiences.”

Yesterday, the BBC and other outlets reported on another post-Oscar project: voicing a character in a new Thomas the Tank Engine movie.
