Yule Log and Winter Page using Woodgrain Overlay

Holiday-Yule-Log-with-Holly-Berries-Front-View

In many parts of the world we are experiencing the short days and cold of winter. For me, this means snuggling up by a warm fire with a good book or old movie. If asked what scents define winter I would definitely put pine, wood and cinnamon at the top of the list! Maybe that is why woodgrain is a popular theme in the paper arts community. Recently, Michelle challenged me to make a woodgrain overlay. Ever since then we have been coming up with different ways to use it! The projects in today’s tutorial were both inspired by the original 12″ x 12″ woodgrain overlay that is available in the Craft Room library. Michelle and I will show you how we made the Christmas Yule Log and the Winter Play scrapbook page. I’ll even show you a trick using free-hand draw that you won’t want to miss.

Be sure to download both of the cutting files below. The Yule Log is included with the video tutorial and the Winter Play page can be downloaded with the link below. I hope you are inspired by these projects and go on to make more of your own. Oh… and don’t forget to share what you have made in the Craft Room Gallery. We love seeing how our designs are interpreted by our very talented Craft Room members!

In this Take Two lesson, Chris and Michelle will show how to use a woodgrain overlay to make two different projects. First, you will learn how to make a Christmas Yule Log with pine branches, holly leaves, and berries. A short lesson on using Free Hand Draw in the Inspiration Studio is included. Next, you will learn how to use the woodgrain overlay as a stencil to create a background for winter themed scrapbook page.

Really cute. Until I saw the video, I didn’t realize that the log was 3-D…I thought, from the photo that it was a tag. I also love stenciling…so this is a win/win!

This was really neat to watch and I was thinking ok after the holidays I have a nice fire starter with the log. But me I would put it up with Christmas stuff and keep it. Thanks for sharing ladies it was fun.

This is a fantastic project! I am making several as house warming and hostess gifts. They are really popular.
