Golden Knights' Marc-Andre Fleury makes great save while facing wrong way

Plenty has had to go right for the Vegas Golden Knights to have a record-setting season for an expansion team.

Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury had a 42-save shutout against the Flames on Sunday.

A shrewd expansion draft, William Karlsson, Erik Haula and others having career years, the coaching of Gerard Gallant, the steadying play of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and enough backups stepping up when Fleury missed significant time with a concussion earlier in the season.

Back to Fleury. He had a candidate for save of the year on Sunday because he never gives up.

With Calgary on a power play late in the second period, the puck came to Mikael Backlund on his backhand. He had to delay a split second to shoot through the legs of defenseman Deryk Engelland, but there was plenty of open net.

Fleury took that time to make a desperation backward thrust with his left leg to thwart Backlund with his skate.

The play looks even better from above.

Fleury lost his stick on the play and had to play most of the rest of the power play without it, though he didn't have to make a save.

He ended up making 42 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and 48th of his career.

And for good measure, Karlsson had a hat trick to give him 39 goals this season.
