Submit your application for the 2022 ASTRO Minority Summer Fellowship Award
Help spread the word! Applications for the 2022 ASTRO Minority Summer Fellowship Award are being accepted. This award introduces medical students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine to the discipline of radiation oncology early in their medical education. Medical students in all years are encouraged to apply, although preference will be given to first- and second-year students. Recipients will receive a $5,000 package that includes a $3,000 stipend at the beginning of the fellowship program, $1,000 for the completion of a final report and $1,000 toward the cost of attending the 2023 ASTRO Annual Meeting. View the details and apply by February 11, 2022.

ASTRO continues year-end push to block Medicare cuts
ASTRO's advocacy efforts remain focused on a year-end legislative solution to address Medicare cuts to radiation therapy in the 2022 physician fee schedule and RO Model, as well as additional cuts to all physicians under Medicare. ASTRO-proposed legislative language includes freezing fee schedule payments for most radiation therapy codes for five years, reducing the Model discount factors to 3% for professional and technical services, and restoring the 5% APM incentive payment for technical services under the Model for eligible freestanding centers.

Radiation oncology stakeholders voiced support for these actions in a recent ASTRO-led letter to Congress. In addition to direct lobbying, ASTRO continues its public relations campaign with digital ads targeting Capitol Hill and supporting efforts by patient advocates and oncology leaders. ASTRO also joined 272 physician-representing organizations in a letter to congressional leadership voicing support for HR 6020, a bill that would extend the 3.75% Medicare physician payment adjustment for another year. Add to this advocacy push by visiting our grassroots action center to send a message to your members of Congress asking them to support ASTRO's proposed legislation to protect radiation therapy services from extreme cuts.
