Have guests color in this cartoon character guestbook

The Guestbook

You might remember Lydia and David's artsy New York wedding because of the bride's incredible technicolor gradient dress, but that wasn't the only awesome colorful detail that we crushed on…

Instead of asking guests to sign a traditional guestbook, each person at the wedding picked a character to color (which included rabbits, cats, and robots) and wrote a brief message to the couple next to their chosen avatar.

You can see the photo in even more detail right over here. And then you can check out more “colorful” guestbook ideas over here!

  1. Just fyi, it looks to me like the bride’s name is Laura and the photographer is Lydia. 🙂

  2. We did the same thing at our wedding last year (a year and a day ago now!), albeit a bigger version but designed by the same guy. It’s framed and hanging on our dining room wall so we see it every day 🙂

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I asked my designer buddy (illosmith.com) whether he’d be able to create something similar for our engagement party (which was on Sat 19th April ’14). Rather than having characters, we had familiar faces from some of our favourite cartoons and also he included some “icon” designs (which he specializes in) that were on our invitations (which he designed, too!) We wanted each of the pictures within a large thought-bubble above mine and my-future-husband’s characters, with the follow Scroobius Pip lyrics either side of us: “In each other’s arms and with interlocked hands lay two smiling faces and one set of plans.”

Can’t wait to have it framed and out on display! I love it!

  4. Is there any way to get a link to the person who made this guestbook? I would LOVE to incorporate something like this into my day!! What an awesome piece of art! 🙂

  5. To people who have had this guestbook, did most guests colour in a character? I love the look of this poster and I am considering it for my wedding. I am just worried that it might be too labour intensive for most guests.

  6. took me a while to track it down as most links took me back here! But I love this, We wanted each of the pictures within a large thought-bubble above mine and my-future-husband’s character.
