From always choosing the storytelling option in English & French classes to sneaking a Mills&Boon romance under the desk at school, Zee went on to make a career out of writing the kind of emotional romances all young girls junk on.
Her Mauritius and Indian-based romances have all the classic makings of Bollywood-type drama: overbearing mothers, matchmaking aunties, ‘proper’ eligible suitors who look like frogs, race & class divides. Travel to the UK (London, Surrey, & North Yorkshire), and you meet people—young and more mature—struggling to find ‘The One’ amid the drudgery of day-to-day life, never mind if they’re a simple graphic designer working from home, a world-renowned supermodel battling anorexia, or a reluctant heiress on the run. Take to the Corpus Agency mantle, and become lethal spies & assassins who nevertheless feel the call of love in their dark and shady lives…
A Muslim of Indian origin & a 2x breast cancer survivor, Zee lives in paradise (aka Mauritius!) with her long-suffering husband, their smart-mouth teenage son, and their tabby cat who thinks herself a fearsome feline from the nearby African Serengeti plains. When she isn’t in her kitchen rolling out chapattis or baking cakes while singing along to the soundtrack of Glee, she can be found reading or catching up on her numerous TV show addictions. In her day job, she is an editor who helps other authors like her hone their works and craft.
Like any good suspense story, Unravelling His Mark starts with a bang, and it is immediately apparent how high the stakes are.
Zach is sent to Mauritius to pursue and lead that says Anabelle is a cold-hearted killer. Like a good hero, he swoops in to save the day at their first meeting. The characters are well-developed and likable; not just the main characters. There is a cast of secondary characters I could see having their own stories. The story delivers twists and intrigue as the truth is unravelled.
The main thing that had me raising a brow was the villain's reason for targeting Anabelle. It seemed rather weak for a big baddie, but I suppose sometimes the simplest things are the biggest triggers.
The story is well-written with some great lines and humour as the author takes us on a trip to Mauritius. If you're into experiencing new places from the comfort of your couch/bed/etc., then you're going to like this one.
Although this is Book 2 of The Protectors series, it is a standalone. Notably, the Corpus Agency doesn't feature in book 1. I'd definitely want to see more stories involving the Corpus Agency and hopefully some of the secondary characters introduced in this story.
I give it 4.5 stars!

I must admit that I’ve never read a proper spy romance novel set in Africa with African main characters nor have I ever read a book set in Mauritius so this was sort of a book of first for me and I enjoyed learning about a new culture and new contexts.
The premise is that Zach is an agent of the secret agency, Corpus, when he is sent to investigate Annabelle, who is believed to be a dangerous assassin posing as a PR company boss. Unlucky in love Annabelle is trying to get her PR company to be the top one in Mauritius and is excited when Zach comes in purportedly representing a large global PR firm interested in partnering with hers.
I thought this was a really quick, enjoyable read. There were a few bits that were too easily resolved and a few conversations and interactions between Zach and Annabelle I felt were missing, but all in all, I though this was really creative and good and the action scenes were innovative and different from what I’ve ever read before. I enjoyed this one.
A wonderful romantic suspense. Not the first book that I’ve read from Ms. Monodee so I went in knowing that the novel would be great. It’s a fast paced read, full of romance that had me sighing and suspense that had me staying up late to read. Brilliant.
Enjoyed this book. Very well written story about Zach a spy sent to Mauritius to find out if Annabelle is the assassin that has evaded the Corpus security agency’s radar for months. He falls for Annabelle during this mission and finds out that the actual assassin is targeting her. A few twists and turns that keeps a reader excited. Great chemistry between Zach and Annabelle. Loved it. Will be reading more from the Corpus agency and more from this author.
This Author is new to me, but I plan to look for more of her work. I loved that the story took place in several parts of the world and was so vivid, It really makes me want to visit some of the places mentioned. There were a lot of twists, turns and surprises mixed throughout the story. The author did a good job with the characters and I will be looking for more stories from her.
I found this to be a fabulous romantic suspense story. The characters are well developed and likable. The storyline is excellent and well written. Action, suspense, twists, and romance make a winning combination.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A pleasant suspenseful romance. It started slowly but picked up quickly. I expected the scene that mimicked the movie, Bodyguard, to evolve to something more.
