Russia preventing US to establish hegemony over world: Mike Harris

An American political commentator says the United States wants to establish hegemony over the world, but Russia is standing in its way.

Mike Harris, an editor of Veterans Today, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday while commenting on Washington’s latest threats to impose further sanctions on Russia because of its alleged role in the Ukraine crisis.

“The entire US foreign policy regarding the situation in Ukraine is extremely misguided,” Harris said.

“First, you have to realize that Russia has never been the aggressor in Ukraine,” he stated. “We have Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland on record stating that the US spent over $5 billion to destabilize and topple, to arrange the coup [against] the elected regime in Ukraine of Viktor Yanukovych.”

Last year, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland disclosed that Washington has “invested” some $5 billion in “promoting democracy” in Ukraine over the past two decades.

In February 2014, Nuland visited Ukraine and held meetings with anti-Kremlin politicians who organized anti-government protests that led to the ouster of Yanukovych, the country’s democratically-elected president.

“The Cold War issue has been very profitable for the US arms manufacturers. There has been a loss of income when the Berlin Wall came down under Ronald Reagan. There was the projected peace dividend that was supposed to be reinvested into the domestic infrastructure of the US which never materialized, because of the created war on terror and 9/11 incident,” Harris said.

“This is a desperate, desperate ploy by…the Western banks, but more than just banks because it involves the military-industrial complex as well. They have overextended themselves. The Western financial model is collapsing before the world’s eyes,” he stated.

The veteran journalist went on to say that the United States and its allies “are trying to get world hegemony” and they want to have the one world government, but “Russia is standing in the way.” “This is a totally misguided foreign policy,” Harris noted.

The US and its allies accuse Moscow of sending troops into eastern Ukraine in support of the pro-Russian forces. Moscow has long denied involvement in Ukraine's crisis.

The Kremlin has described Washington’s foreign policy on Ukraine as “aggressive” which “fails to meet present-day realities and demonstrates that the United States actually wants to dominate the world.”

According to the commander of United States Army Europe, the US military plans to send troops to Ukraine this spring to train four companies in the Ukrainian National Guard.

The US has already earmarked $19 million to help build the Ukrainian National Guard. Lt. Gen Frederick Ben Hodges led a US command delegation to Kiev on Wednesday to begin evaluating the situation in Ukraine’s restive south-eastern regions.

“It’s time for the US to grow up and start being a better world citizen. This is more proof that our foreign policy has been hijacked, and that the US is run by a criminal cabal sitting in the city of London and Israel. And it is time for the American people to seize control of their own government and end this corruption and put these people in prison or hang them for treason as needed,” Harris concluded.
