Youngster's Yellow Submarine Dream Made Reality

An imaginery submarine thought up by a seven-year-old boy has been made into reality.

Jacob Bland drew out a design for his dream underwater vehicle, and wrote to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) asking if they would like to build it and use it for "sneaking and spying".

Apprentices from the DSTL used Jacob's drawing to create a 3D-printed model of the design, contributing to one of their qualifications.

"We are overwhelmed by the thought and effort put in by staff at DSTL," says the youngster's father, Matthew Bland.

"Jake was absolutely made up about the submarine, and it hasn’t left his side yet."

Verity Jackson was one of the apprentices to work on the sub, and said: "It was really great to be able to reproduce this for Jacob.

"We are all thrilled with the outcome and equally thrilled we were able to bring Jacob’s drawing to life."

Jacob wants his next creation to be a battleship to go with his submarine, according to his father.
