U.S. bakeries cooking up ‘deflate-gate’ inspired treats

WATCH ABOVE: A Washington County candy maker is having some fun at the expense of Tom ‘Bradie’ and the New England Patriots. 

TORONTO – U.S. confectioners are baking up a storm over the New England Patriots deflated football controversy.

A candy maker in Pennsylvania made a chocolate football with a dent in the side nicknamed the “Bradie ball,” according to The (Washington) Observer-Reporter.

Bill Sarris, owner of Sarris Candies, had his staff whip up the “deflate-gate” creation and posted a picture of it on Facebook with the caption “Net weight 13 lbs … Oops! We meant 11.2 lbs.”

The Patriots and star quarterback Tom Brady have been accused of using underinflated footballs during their AFC Championship win, against the Indianapolis Colts, on Jan. 18 — dubbed “deflate-gate” in the media and on social media. The controversy has dogged the Patriots as they prepare for the Super Bowl, where they are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

Sarris Candies isn’t the only inspired by the scandal.

In Massachusetts, the Boston Common Coffee Company made light of situation facing the Pats by selling “deflated” cookies in the shape of airless footballs.

Cupcake City added a deflate-gate twist by selling cupcakes featuring statements like “get over it” and “Deflate this.”

Doughnut chain Krispy Kreme also capitalized on the controversy. The company tweeted a photo last week of football shaped doughnut, with the caption ours “ours are fully filled.”
