Blazier, Evanson, Nehring Named NCBWA Preseason All-Region

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State baseball team's Chase Blazier, Travis Evanson and Tyler Nehring each have garnered 2015 NCBWA Preseason All-Region accolades, the association announced Wednesday.

All three landed on the region's second team. Blazier was one of four starting pitchers to make the second team, while Evanson is the first baseman and Nehring earned the utility spot.

Blazier (Sr., Harvard, Ill.) was the ace of the Warrior pitching staff in 2014, compiling a 7-2 record with a 3.00 ERA while starting 10 games. He struck 32 batters while walking just six in 63 innings pitched.

Evanson (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) led the Warrior bats in 2014 with 12 home runs while hitting .326 with 40 RBI and a .587 slugging percentage. He had a career game at U-Mary, tying a WSU single-game record with three home runs.

Nehring (Jr., De Pere, Wis.) was both an ABCA and Daktronics All-Region selection last season after leading the Warrior lineup with a .389 batting average and a team-best 41 RBI and a .600 slugging percentage.

Winona State finished 2014 with a 27-22 overall record, including a 20-11 mark in conference play.

The Warriors will officially get their season underway on Thursday, Feb. 5 against Tarleton State in the Astros In Action tournament in Houston, Texas. WSU is scheduled to open its NSIC slate on March 21 with a doubleheader against Bemidji State in Winona.
