Record application numbers, more diverse applicant pool for W&M

Interest in joining the Tribe is at an all-time high.

For the 11th consecutive year, William & Mary has received a record number of undergraduate applications, totaling about 14,950 – a 2.7 percent increase from last year.

Also up this year is the diversity of the applicant pool. The number of students of color who applied increased 6 percent from 2014, and the number of first-generation students increased 9 percent.

“As we enter the heart of our application review season, it is exciting to know that we will be selecting members of the Class of 2019 from the largest and most diverse applicant pool in our history,” said Tim Wolfe, interim associate provost for enrollment and dean of admission. “While this will require hard work and many difficult decisions, we know the end result will be an outstanding group of students ready to make an impact at William & Mary beginning this fall.”

The admission committee is currently reviewing applications, and decisions are expected to be emailed by early April.

Ultimately, 1,520 students are expected to enter William & Mary in August as members of the Class of 2019.
