Safety improvements approved for US 41/US 141 interchange
Safety improvements will soon be implemented around the US 41/US 141 interchange in Oconto County.
Gov. Scott Walker approved $2.35 million worth of improvements, which include installing cable barriers along with rumble strips.
Rumble strips have
after a deadly crash at a rural intersection two weeks ago where rumble strips had been removed due to noise complaints.
Cable barriers work similar to guardrails. Placed in the median, they prevent a vehicle from crossing into oncoming lanes, but unlike guardrails the high-tension steel cables entrap the vehicle, reducing the risk it will bounce back into traffic.
Safety improvements will also be made for 11 miles of US 41/141 from the city of Oconto to the Brown County line.
Work is expected to start Monday and be completed by October.
