Rolling Deadline: Master of Science, Library and Information Science

Whether you are a recent graduate or have decided on a career change, earning a Masters of Science Degree from St. John’s Library and Information Science program is a great choice for your future. Why? The industry has in demand professions.

Librarianship is a rapidly changing field. With new technologies and digital information, libraries and librarians are needed more than ever to provide relevant and meaningful services to library users. The St. John’s program works to prepare graduates for careers within the traditional library setting as well as new and emerging positions in the communications, business, technology services, and research industries.

The Department of Library and Information Science reviews and accepts applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, so you may begin your studies in the Fall, Spring, or Summer. To be considered, a successful applicant to the MS program will have:
  • Earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university achieving at least a B (3.0) grade point average (GPA).
  • A statement of professional purpose, which should include a meaningful discussion of what you hope to accomplish with an MLS from St. John’s.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors, instructors, or persons with whom you have worked in a professional capacity. 
  • Official Transcripts from each institution you have attended.  If you attended St. John’s as an undergraduate and/or a graduate student, you are NOT required to submit these transcripts.
  • Applicants must also demonstrate, either by their studies or by their professional experience, a general understanding of computers and computer technology.
  • A $70 application fee, which must be paid when the application is submitted. 
  • An interview with the director* (may be required)
