WaPo: Russia is helping Bernie Sanders’ campaign, he was briefed a month ago

EL SERENO, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA - NOVEMBER 16: Democratic presidential hopeful, Vermont Senator, Bernie Sanders speaks to supporters during his 2020 California Election Campaign Rally held at Woodrow Wilson High School on November 16, 2019 in El Se

Do you think Donald Trump WANTS to run against Bernie Sanders? I have no idea. I think Trump was scared of Joe Biden, which is why Trump did the most to “dirty up” Biden with the Ukrainian crap. I think Trump is scared of Elizabeth Warren, but Trump also believes that if he runs against another woman, his base of misogynists will turn out in droves. I tend to believe that somewhere, someone on the Trump team believes that Sanders is their best option for an opposing candidate. I also believe that Trump’s literal partner in crime, Russia, has come to the same conclusion. Yes, it’s confirmed now: the Russian disinformation organization has been working on Bernie Sanders’ behalf:

U.S. officials have told Sen. Bernie Sanders that Russia is attempting to help his presidential campaign as part of an effort to interfere with the Democratic contest, according to people familiar with the matter.

President Trump and lawmakers on Capitol Hill also have been informed about the Russian assistance to the Vermont senator, those people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

It is not clear what form that Russian assistance has taken. U.S. prosecutors found a Russian effort in 2016 to use social media to boost Sanders’s campaign against Hillary Clinton, part of a broader effort to hurt Clinton, sow dissension in the American electorate and ultimately help elect Donald Trump.

“I don’t care, frankly, who [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wants to be president,” Sanders said in a statement. “My message to Putin is clear: Stay out of American elections, and as president I will make sure that you do. In 2016, Russia used Internet propaganda to sow division in our country, and my understanding is that they are doing it again in 2020. Some of the ugly stuff on the Internet attributed to our campaign may well not be coming from real supporters.”

[From WaPo]

This is not shocking to any person who has been on the internet or any social media platform in the past four years. Even back in 2016, there were bots feverishly sowing divisions into the Democratic base about how Hillary Clinton “stole” the nomination. And I have every belief that those same Russian tools will be used again throughout the primary season.

Of course, there’s another layer to this – Sanders was briefed about this a month ago and said nothing. His supporters argue that it was classified information and it would have been against the law for him to reveal it or discuss it anyway. Possibly… although it looks like Sanders didn’t say anything mostly because he knew how damaging it would be to him politically. Which would explain why Sanders attacked the Washington Post for its accurate reporting. He wasn’t mad about the “leak” of the classified information, he was mad that he couldn’t get through the Nevada caucus without answering questions about Russia.

I loathe Bernie Sanders and will not vote for him. I would not vote for Jill Stein, Tulsi Gabbard, this, or Trump.

His comments on Fidel Castro are spectacularly obnoxious. Nobody would be happy living like they did in Cuba under Castro. Ask any of the balseros about how was life under Castro.

If you do not know what is a balsero, take a look:

    • Ash says:

Please, from a foreigner who cannot vote in the upcoming US election, please vote for Sanders if he is the nominee. You can dislike him and campaign against him now as much as you want, but once he’s the nominee, the rest of the world is counting on you to cast your vote.

    • Scal says:

Vote for who you want-but I hope you aren’t in a battleground state as IMO that is a selfish and privileged opinion to take. Do t like Bernie vote for trump? Okay then-we see you.

    • martika says:

My parents fled Cuba when they were teenagers, and I found his comments about Fidel to be abhorrent. I’m sorry, but a literacy program shouldn’t come at the cost of human rights. I’m a Democrat, but I will find it hard to vote for him if he gets the nomination.

      • Tina says:

this is why sanders will cost the democrats control of Senate and maybe House.

      • A says:

Please, everyone, vote for whoever gets the Democratic nomination. Do whatever it takes to get rid of Trump.

I remember listening to people in 2016 who didn’t like Hilary and didn’t want to vote, and look what happened.

    • Aang says:

Frida- Have you been to Cuba? Yes there is poverty. There is poverty here. Cubans look at the tent cities in California with horror. Is there government over reach? For sure. Here African American men are routinely falsely imprisoned and executed without due process by the police. Cubans are horrified by stories of street crime and school shootings in the US. I was just texting a friend in Cuba about 10 minutes ago. His 3 month old niece has a severe ear infection. She was hospitalized last night. She will be kept for one week. Her mother will get a bed to sleep in the room with the baby and some meals. This will be completely free with care provided by the best trained doctors in Latin America. My friend’s dad just died of esophageal cancer. He was given chemo and radiation, and then hospice. Same care he would receive here. It cost the family nothing. That would bankrupt my family even though we have top notch insurance. Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate and an equivalent or higher literacy rate than the US. When you look at the black communities in the two countries Cuba tops the US for both categories. Much of the infrastructure problems in Cuba are directly related to the US embargo. Also Cubans have free use of the internet including social media. Follow some Cubans and you will see them speaking freely and criticizing the government. Are they publicly calling for an overthrow of the government? No, but they can air grievances without threat of reprisal. So is Cuba perfect? Absolutely not. Does that mean everything about Cuba is terrible? Absolutely not. As far as those that fled after the revolution? I’m sure if we read accounts written by loyalists who fled back to England after the American Revolution or aristocrats who escaped France during the reign of terror we’d hear much of the same. Does that mean both countries should have remained monarchies? Revolution isn’t pretty. And the government had the absolute right to take back the wealth that US corporations and organized crime had stolen from the Cuban people. I’m not a communist but I do believe that natural resources should be used to better the lives of everyone in a nation, not just corporations that can bribe government officials for contracts. Cuba is changing slowly and it will democratize, quicker if the US drops the embargo. There are two sides to every story. Cuba’s story included.

      • Div says:

        @Aang
It’s possible to see Cuba had it’s good sides, but it’s laughable to say it’s the equivalent of the US unless you are comparing it to the Jim Crow era South. And let’s not exaggerate—there are so many examples, but off the top of my head Antúnez has regularly said he was discriminated against, and his punishments even harsher, because he’s Black. There is just as much, if not more, institutionalized racism in Cuba as there is in the US. And are we forgetting about the forced labor camps in the 60s for LGBTQ individuals???? Hell, Cuba was hell for gay folks until the mid 1990s….and obviously the US was also shit, but Cuba was on a whole different level.

Not going to doxx myself, but I’m originally from a country with a lot of Cubans settled in…now I’m from the US. My mom had two close friends who fled to my native country from Cuba because they kept getting arrested for being gay, and were in the forced labor camps. My dad had a Cuban acquaintance who had been a professor, and had been tortured and arrested for protesting against the regime.

But here’s the thing…even if Bernie was right it’s insanely bad politics to be like “well, gotta hand it to Castro for x.” Save that for after he gets elected..because as of now he has to win FL and he can’t as long as he says this kind of garbage.

      • Aang says:

DIV I agree with you about saving it for after the election. Castro declared an end to racism in the 60’s, as if you can actually do that so yes it’s not like racism disappeared. But it’s not like the entire criminal justice system isn’t racist in this country either. I’m 100% with you on gay rights, and it’s changing. Havana has an out gay community that is publicly calling for equal rights and the constitution is being amended to recognize same sex unions right now. Cuba is 60 years old, not 250. Best way to help it grow up is to allow Americans with their money and technology visit unrestricted the way Europeans and Canadians already can. Do I want to live in Cuba? No. If I were super poor would I rather live in Cuba? Maybe. Thing is many Cubans are still proud of their country and their revolution. Telling them they are living in a hell hole isn’t the way to win converts. Also name a candidate that would openly call for regime change or embargo against Saudi Arabia? They won’t. Even though SA has a much harsher human rights record. I’m tired of the Cuban community in Florida making it impossible for the US to have a rational policy towards Cuba just because the senate and electoral college are undemocratic. 60 years of vinegar hasn’t changed much, let’s try some honey. But for the many it’s not about what’s best for the Cuban people. It’s about punishing Castro even though he’s dead. The expats aren’t getting their property back. So let’s just love on and go with a Velvet Revolution fueled by tourists.

      • Div says:

        @Aang.

But…most aren’t calling for a revolution or even saying he has to call Cuba a hell hole. People aren’t calling him out for criticizing JFK’s planned invasion… They are saying there are better ways of wording, or handling the situation, than Sanders does…like he worded it in the most clumsy, borderline offensive way…hell, he sounds harsher on JFK than Castro!

And even in the 60 minutes interview, he bungled the response again with his “whatabout literacy” take… I know many leftists don’t like Obama but he handled the Cuban situation quite well in how he described the good and bad sides…. and started to normalize relations. There is absolutely no reason Bernie couldn’t have followed a similar path… Hell, he could even copy the end of your paragraph and it would be way better than how he’s handled the situation as of now.

It probably wouldn’t bother me so much IF I wasn’t so worried about the downballot races in FL…this will badly hurt them. It’s not just kissing his chances at FL away, but will also hurt people like Shalala and Murphy….who are way too moderate for my tastes but still are way better than any Republican.

      • Mac says:

@Aang Access to healthcare and social media is not proof that anyone is free under a dictatorship. The State Department and several human rights organizations report on the state of human rights in Cuba annually. Extra judicial killings by police are a regular occurrence, as is the jailing and torture of political dissidents, freedom of religion is tightly controlled, and laws limit freedom of press.

      • Chica71 says:

Most other Caribbean countries send their people their for quality of medical care. Venture out of US and the experiences of others with Cuba is very positive

      • Mika says:

Yeah I’ll put it out there: I’ve been to Cuba. I have lots of friends in Cuba. A lot of Cubans come to Canada for university exchanges and other things. It’s not a perfect country. No one in Cuba thinks it’s a perfect country. But that country was run as a colony of the American Mafia before Fidel Castro. Batista was a dictator who murdered and tortured his political opponents in the streets – with the full support of the US government. I’m sorry, but Fidel Castro did make life in Cuba better for most people. One of my Cuban friends put it this way: “Fidel Castro is a dictator. But at least he’s a dictator for us.”

    • Lama Bean says:

      I DESPISE him as well.

    • Tiffany :) says:

His comments on Castro are terrible. We have zero chance of winning Florida if Sanders is the nominee.

This weekend as I considered the prospect of having to defend Sanders to my fellow voters, I became very sad. i really don’t agree with his positions and I don’t think he has a chance of winning the general election.

    • jj says:

I don’t care for Sanders either but if he does win the nomination, I will vote for him. I will vote for a snake over Trump anyday. Remember, the real power is in the Senate and they will keep him(Sanders) in check.

      • Lorelei says:

@JJ me too. I absolutely cannot stand Bernie but no way is he worse than Trump.

      • 2020 says:

“Remember, the real power is in the Senate and they will keep him(Sanders) in check.”

@JJ: So you’re hoping the GOP continues to maintain its influence over the country? Please get help.

      • tiredTreaded says:

I’d wear baggy grey clothes & call my friends comrades AND wait in bread lines before I see another 4 years of trumPutin cheeseball environmental hazard. I’m no bernie fan, but he’s a f&kton better than what we see now.

    • The Recluse says:

Basically, he just lost Florida with those asinine Cuba-Fidel statements.
And Drumpf and the GOP are going to go to town on all of Sanders’ old Russia statements and videos. They want him to be the nominee so they can air everything that is out there because it will turn enough voters off of Sanders. That’s the cold, hard truth of the situation we face.
And women won’t appreciate his old columns about women and rape and sexuality, etc.
      Sanders is a time bomb.
Even his wife has a sketchy background with that college she worked with.
He is a freaking time bomb.
But, so far, he has only won three caucuses/primaries, and the total number of those participants didn’t even reach 1,000,000 voters, if my memory is correct.
Super Tuesday is coming, people. Cross your fingers.

  2. Rapunzel says:

And first it was reported that they are helping Trump. Officials are apparently walking that one back now, but those ate Trump officials.

Of course Russia wants Bernie vs. Trump. Trump will win. Bernie’s got too much against him at this point. And I’m skeptical that Bernie is even winning primaries/caucuses fairly at this point. Bernie just needs to back out for the sake of the country. But of course he won’t.

I will say this though: the timing of these revelations is shady af. I get Bernie being upset. This info on Bernie was meant to distract from the same info on Trump that came out first. And sabatoge Bernie.

But I don’t cry for Bernie because he should have announced this immediately after being briefed on it. And dropped out. Instead he’s acting defensive about it, and defending Fidel Castro. Brilliant, Bernie.

I’m hoping Bernie will tank now. But I’m highly worried if doesn’t get the nomination that he will run third party. If he goes Jill Stein, we’re really screwed.

    • Betsy says:

The timing is not shady, af or otherwise. Somewhere between half to three quarters of ballots had already been cast in Nevada. No one was torpedoing him. And his campaign has the funniest little habit of being nasty themselves – like when they released that lie video about Biden’s positions just before a debate, and then that same weekend the story about Bernie and Warren’s convo came out which gave his followers cart blanche to text snake emojis at her, her followers and generally be useless tools.

Bernie knew about this for a month. I happen to know a little about classified info and it is fair to say he couldn’t have talked about *that* specific intel that he received, but he *could* have made a point of saying that Russia boosted him in 2016 and Mueller confirmed the boosting was ongoing. He could have used that as a tool to disavow the help from Russia (which, unlike with Donald, I don’t think he has asked for) and when this news broke, as it inevitably would, he would have looked sage and measured. Instead he’s just playing to his aggrieved bros.

    • pottymouth pup says:

The GOP wants Bernie v Trump as well. They know the majority of Democrats and the formerly “moderate Republicans” will feel like they have to hold their nose to vote for him and are aware that the die-hard Bernie supporters as still tweaking the crap out of Democrats who haven’t joined he cult round him.

What I’m not sure is if Russia would push to arrange for a Bernie win (if they expect that the democrats will take the senate and keep the house which might interfere with Trump as POTUS) and then drop evidence that they helped Bernie to keep the political turmoil going

  3. wildwaffles says:

I am a “blue no matter who” because *anyone* is better than Trump, even though Sanders is not my cup of tea. But if you are one of those people who says you can’t or won’t vote for Sanders, then you better be out there block walking and registering voters and donating to your candidate of choice and try to motivate other voters to get to the polls. Sitting on the sidelines complaining is not helpful and not voting or voting 3rd party ensures disaster.

    • Frida_K says:

I’ll be voting for everyone on the ticket but POTUS if the only chance is Sanders. I refuse to cast my vote for that creature.

But yes, absolutely, I will be doing anything and everything to support the blue vote aside from him.

And the whole “we see you” b.s.? Eh, whatever. I saw how his voters didn’t rally around HC last time and I expect to see a massive tantrum and them not voting for whoever gets the nom unless it’s their boy, so anyone who has that to say can save it.

My vote is a precious thing. I will not cast it for someone who is, in my estimation, the Left’s Trump.

      • tiredTreaded says:

Seriously frida, do you understand that if trump has another 4 years we won’t have clean water OR a fair judicial system? Please take a chance on Bern, he isn’t as autocratic as trump. Please.

  4. Cassandra says:

Perhaps the most patriotic thing to do would be to bow out?

The Russians are probably right though. I’ll vote for whoever isn’t Donald Trump….but it’s gonna be very hard for me to stomach voting for Bernie. Not a vote I’d be particularly proud of.

*tin foil hat on* Or this is all a conspiracy by Trump/GOP/Putin so Trump can delegitimize Bernie’s hypothetical win. They love to accuse enemies of the crimes they’re guilty of.

    • Mac says:

Sonia Sotomayor sent us a warning. The court is with Trump. If he doesn’t win I fully expect him to contest the election, and he might prevail. It’s important to remember we have not yet seen the worst of Trump.

    • anon says:

“Perhaps the most patriotic thing to do would be to bow out?”
Yes, it would, but Bernard’s ego would never allow it.

  5. Guest says:

I feel the same as Frida about Sanders!

I think trump wants to run against sanders because he knows he can beat him. I think he was afraid to run again Joe Biden and I also think he’s afraid of running against Bloomberg.

    • Dani says:

Because Biden and Bloomberg are moderates and can sway the election. Bernie, on the other hand, is a socialist, and will basically hand Trump the election. His 52% tax idea on everyone is ridiculous and unfeasible. He’s also not healthy at all and there is a reason he’s refusing to show any more medical info.

      • Guest says:

        exactly

      • Hollz says:

I’m a Warren supporter, but it’s ridiculous that you are STILL bringing up the “52% tax idea on everyone” as a point against Bernie. He did not, and would not suggest that.

One proposal offered by Sanders would raise the tax rate to 52% on earnings over $10 million. Sanders also proposed that the first $29,000 of a person’s income would be exempt from taxes, and a 4% income-based premium would be applied to earnings over $29,000.

That is NOT 52% on everyone, not even close. Earnings over 10 million. Not one million, not five million. 10 million.

      • Dani says:

Hollz, explain to me how all these free things will be paid for. Other than taxing people more, of course. My husband, an immigrant, came to this country piss poor and ended up starting his own business that has 30+ employees so even if the company makes $10 million, taxing them 52% would cause them to fire at least half of their staff because there is no way they could afford to run the company, manufacture their goods, pay employees when their income was just slashes in half.

  6. boredblond says:

The biggest fear is that inroads made in 2018 will be reversed…the house went blue because of suburbs, more mid left independents and women, but these groups aren’t Bernie bros…losing both houses would be catastrophic. Bernie’s initial statement was fine, but then he had to toss in a remark questioning timing, obviously to get the conspiracy folks started, that was right out of trump’s routine…

  7. Jenns says:

Why does he always look like his daughter-in-law just dressed him up to take out of the senior living center for the day?

JFC. We’re really going with this disheveled, old man who recently had a heart attack? I’m going to need to hold my nose so hard on election day if this is the case.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I hear you, and it isn’t his appearance so much for me as it is the socialist label that has so many people wary of him. But maybe if you keep considering the alternative, voting for him won’t be so hard if he’s the nominee.

    • Bella DuPont says:

Excuse the visuals, but if I were American, I would happily vote for a bucket of faeces, over Donald Trump. When you imagine that, Bernie Sanders doesn’t seem quite as bad anymore.

I hope Elizabeth Warren wins. ✌️

  8. HK9 says:

I know this is really superficial but, I look at that last picture of him and I truly wonder if he can physically withstand the rigors and pressures of being president. He doesn’t look like a ‘young’ 78.

    • Jenns says:

This is not superficial. This is a serious issue that should be talked about more. Even Jimmy Carter said he would not have been able to handle the presidency in his 80s. We’ve seen what the job has done to past presidents and how it ages them–and they didn’t have a serious condition.

      • Originaltessa says:

I’m going to hell… but if he wins, then dies in office, his running mate becomes president. So let’s see who he runs with. And yes, I’m terrible. I know.

      • Jerusha says:

Originaltessa. It’s not terrible. I keep hoping trump and pence spontaneously combust at the same time, then Pelosi becomes Prez.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Originaltessa- no it’s not terrible. Same happened with John McCain in 2008. Look at who his VP was. One must consider the WHOLE ticket, not just one gunning for the big head-lining job.

    • ab says:

I am a Warren fan but if Bernie wins the primary and goes all the way I hope he picks a serious and capable VP because I really don’t think he will make it through four years of one of the most high stress jobs out there.

      • What. . .now? says:

I agree, if Bernie wins I am totally looking at who he picks for VP, because. . . well, you know. If he has a good VP, I won’t be so disappointed in having to vote for him.

        I’m hoping for Warren.

    • LNG says:

I was thinking this when looking at the photos above – he is not looking good. To me it looks like it goes beyond simple campaign exhaustion (they all look tired), but even if it doesn’t, how is dude going to handle the most stressful job in the world – with the stamina of an almost 80 year old who just had a heart attack?

  9. Toniko says:

    He’s just uneligible. No.. Ew…

    • Bella DuPont says:

American Jeremy Corbyn. Unelectable, plain and simple. (Unless running against DT, in which case he’ll suddenly become Barack Obama version II.

  10. Nona says:

Bernie is my least favorite Democratic candidate, I cannot warm up to that man, but I didn’t think he acted “super mad” there. The timing is suspect, coming out right before the Nevada caucus. I would have been peeved too.
I also don’t think the Russians are interfering with the actual vote (yet), particularly since there’s a paper trail for the caucuses thus far. I do think they’re sowing dissension online. And the Sanders campaign is susceptible to that, because whether Bernie wants to admit it or not, his followers can be rabid.
It’s one thing for Bernie to say in a national debate that he disowns any followers that harass others. I want to see him say it before one of his crowds, loud and clear. He needs to own it, which he repeatedly refuses to do. He needs to acknowledge that it happened in the past and it’s happening still. And he needs to shut it down.

    • Mac says:

The timing is not suspicious. It would have been unconscionable for the Post to sit on this. Americans need to know Russia is interfering in our elections.

    • anon says:

“I also don’t think the Russians are interfering with the actual vote (yet), particularly since there’s a paper trail for the caucuses thus far”
Russian no, but Republicans are and they are quite open about it. Since there is little air space between the Kremlin and the GOP, Russians are, in a way, meddling with the vote.

  11. Originaltessa says:

He’s going on tv praising Fidel Castro. It’s two sides of the same coin. Trump has Kim Jong Un, Bernie loves Fidel. WTF is going on? We’ve lost our damn minds. Elizabeth Warren would have made a wonderful president. She’s very progressive, but not a lunatic old man. This is looking like a disaster.

    • Mac says:

Trump and Sanders are iliberal wannabe autocrats. Bloomberg is as well.

    • Betsy says:

3% have voted! This is not a done deal!

If you love Warren, do what you can for her: donate (probably “again,” I’m assuming you already have), volunteer, postcard, door knock, phone bank. This is not a done deal and she is polling second in nationwide polls, which are kind of meaningless but a nice measure anyway.

  12. Babs441 says:

I’m in FL and pigs will fly before I vote for Sanders. Can’t stand him. I just won’t vote.

    • 10KTurtle says:

I go back and forth on this- I read a piece by the Dirty Jobs guy saying you can’t vote *against* someone, you can only vote *for* someone. There is no ballot spot for “not X.” I do NOT AT ALL want to vote for Bernie, but I do NOT AT ALL want Donald to win, so… ??? Voting for Bernie will leave a bad taste on my soul, but what if I don’t vote and it ends up really close? Sob.

      • Betsy says:

It wouldn’t even have to be a bad taste in your soul. Think of all the people who will be ruined by a gop admin. America will literally be lost for a time. And once again it would be minorities, poor people, immigrants, religious minorities and women who would lose.

    • Kate says:

And right there – maybe this is why Russia wants him as the Democratic nominee. Hope that democrats themselves will not vote for him. But I mean we saw what Russia did to Hilary in 2016 why wouldn’t Warren be as easily sabotaged? Is the thinking that she is more palatable to all Democrats? Won’t misogynists, like, not vote for her because she has a high-pitched (i.e. a woman’s) voice?

    • Pineapple says:

Oh Babs441 … DONT DO THIS!!! Listen, here in Canada we ALL strategically voted our second last Federal Election. The whole country voted Liberal to get the Conservative Autocrat out of office.
You vote the lesser of two evils if you have to. You do. Otherwise, the truly evil guy who builds walls and keeps human children in cages will win.

      You vote.

      • Scotchy says:

        Hey @ Pineapple,
All Canadians did NOT strategically vote, just the eastern Canadians. Everyone I know voted for who they wanted to represent their riding. I however am in BC so my vote means nothing at the end of the day. I hate strategic voting. I honestly believe if people actually voted with their values and not with fear the minority government would have more NDP seats and Green seats. It would have been more balanced. As long as fear controls narratives democracy doesn’t exist. It hasn’t for a while. This US election is just sad and disappointing to watch. I wish with all my heart that Warren would get the nomination as she is the best candidate it just seems that at the end of the day the crazed emperor is just going to swindle another term. We live in scary times.

    • Dani says:

I’m with you Babs. Rather eat my own shit than vote for this wannabe Socialist dictator. The Democrats hate him more than the Republicans at this point. He doesn’t stand a chance.

    • Jerusha says:

I was a Bernie fan 25 years ago. That died out in 2016. But I will vote blue no matter who. We MUST get rid of trump and his enablers. You’ve seen the damage they’ve done so far. Just consider what they can do with another four years. Do you think RBG wants to hang on for that long or can hang on? Vote Dem the entire ballot. Hold the House, take the Senate. That would keep Sanders under control and then he’d be too decrepit or too dead to run in 2024. But, do not sit it out. That, among other things, gave us this wretched place we’re in now.

      • Babs441 says:

After his comments on Fidel, there’s ZERO chance he will win FL. I will vote Democrat but not for Sanders. HE is only a democrat when it suits him. I LOVE Biden but would happily vote for any other candidate except Sanders.

    • Person3514 says:

All of you saying you won’t vote for him need to just suck it up. I’m sure I’ll get roasted, but I do not like Hillary Clinton. There are things I admire about her, but I did not want her to win the nomination and I did not want to vote her, at all. I voted for her though. I knew Trump was an awful idiot. I went into the booth, murmered to myself grumpily and voted for her. I don’t care if a chicken is running against Trump. Please vote for whoever ends up running against Trump. We have no moral high ground to stand on at this point. We have to get rid of Trump.

      • Call_me_Al says:

        Exactly, Person3514!

Millenials (of which I am one), grow up and do what’s right for the country, don’t just throw a hissy fit because your favorite didn’t get the nomination.

      • 10KTurtle says:

I didn’t want to vote for Hillary in 2016 but I did, because everybody bullied me into it, and I’m really not looking forward to being bullied all year into voting for a terrible person again. Electing someone who’s going to cause us to lose the House & even more of the Senate is fruitless because you know the GOP can’t wait to impeach the next Democratic president. P.S. not a millennial

  13. Darla says:

Bernie’s doing great already, having told Florida to get f’d. Bernie has no shot at Florida, however…there are down ticket races there that we need in order to keep the House. Well, say goodbye to all that and hello to your new BFF, Fidel Castro!

    Idiots of the world, Unite!

  14. 10KTurtle says:

The Sunday news show clips were making me ill- Trump toadies simultaneously claiming that the part about Russia supporting Donald was NOT in the briefing but also that liddle’ Adam Schiff selectively leaked the part about Russia supporting Trump. Those can’t both be true, but truth isn’t truth so what? The other thing making me ill is the fact that Bernie’s gonna eff us all either way- either he’s the nominee and Donald beats him (which he will), or anybody else is the nominee and Bernie’s bros tank the whole election again (which they will). I don’t even get to vote until three more weeks from now and some people are still almost 8 weeks from primary votes. Is there a pill I can take to treat utter despair? Sob.

  15. Snappyfish says:

BS Is nothing but an egomaniacal empty suit. He doesn’t care about what’s right, he only cares that he wins. I saw Anderson Cooper last night & was aghast at how he was unable to say how much his 2 key programs, college debt forgiveness & Medicare for all, cost or how he would pay for it. That is unacceptable for any candidate who wishes to be president. It shows his lack of preparedness to actually be president. His comments about the Democratic establishment is not one that will join the country together to fight to defeat IMPOTUS.

I think most egregious were his comments about Castro‘s literacy program. Literacy is a great thing but let’s not forget it was important to Castro that his people read so they could read the propaganda that HE was posting. These people were not able to get actual news only what the state provided. Not to mention what happened to anyone who opposed him. These comments essentially handed FL electoral votes to Trump if BS is the nominee. These are important things to consider & once again showing that Sanders is not ready or, in my opinion, capable of being President.

    • Div says:

A journalist dug up an old newspaper column which was even crazier…where he said Castro ended hunger in Cuba which is just….laughable if you know anything about Cuban history.

His comments on Ortega are far worse. I understand realpolitik, that occasionally people have to deal and kiss ass with horrible monsters. But Bernie wasn’t doing realpolitik when he slobbered all over Ortega…and I’ve already seen his followers accusing anyone bothered of it of supporting/having supported the Contras or being right wing which is laughable. It’s like “you can think two things are both horrible” but…nope. I kind of think half his followers are unaware that Ortega oversaw mass rape, mass murder of the Miskito, mass murder in general, mass torture, etc.

      Anyway, good bye FL.

    • Betsy says:

An egomaniacal empty RUMPLED suit. Otherwise you are entirely correct. Bernie is in this for Bernie. Who the fck would want to primary 2012 Obama? Maybe if Bernie could have excited his minions to GOTV in the 2010 midterms we wouldn’t have lost so much ground!

    • Tiffany :) says:

I totally agree. I hope this interview causes his supporters to take a second look at him and realize what a terrible nominee he would make.

  16. Div says:

I’m kind of in a strange position…I will absolutely vote for him, and I agree with a lot of his ideas…but the double standards, his followers, and some of his own actions make me grit my teeth.

I hate that any sort of mild criticism is met with “well, sorry you have to suffer mean tweets…we just want health care.” Every single candidate is advocating for some sort of universal health care, and Warren is advocating for single payer. Also, unlike Bernie Warren has spelled out every cost of her plan.

I hate the gaslighting his campaign does along with the straight out lies. The consistent record gets me the most…the man voted to allow guns on Amtrak, against the Brady Bill five times, etc. and was on Lou Dobbs screaming about how immigrants shouldn’t be teachers…and yet it’s like some mass brainwashing that we’re all supposed to believe he’s been consistent the entire time and people twist themselves into pretzels when folks point this shit out.

I hate that his campaign is full of Jill Stein voters and acts like the media is against him. Sure, Chris Matthews and Morning Joe are irrational about Bernie. But TYT, Jacobin, and several WaPo and Huff Post writers are so clearly in his camp…hell Jacobin is practically an arm of his campaign. Look at how several journos dogged Kamala relentlessly over her vote on SESTA, but crickets about Bernie and Warren’s vote. Look at how they give him a pass for not having full numbers on his health care plan, but dogged Warren until she spelled her plan out to a T. And come on…if any other candidate had written that women get cervical cancer because they are frigid they would be dragged so badly they’d probably have to end their campaign.

And yes, we will never get Florida with him…nor AZ which probably would have been in play with any other candidate. So we have to get the entire midwest and PA or OH or NC, which will be hard….

    • Ann says:

I agree about Florida but not so much about Arizona. Arizona was pretty evenly split in 2016. Progressive pockets in Southern and Northern AZ keep the state purple. I don’t see any dem candidate having a landslide but AZ has become a swing state.

For what it’s worth I live in Tucson and I’ve seen Bernie signs all over the city. I have only seen one trump sign and it was in a wealthy part of town heavily populated by liberals. I wasn’t in Phoenix at all in 2016 so I probably missed a lot of the red support, but the blue progressive support is in my face every day I drive to work, and I’m loving it.

      • WriterMarie says:

I’m in Scottsdale, there were a lot of Trump Supporters here in 2016 and still now. Most of them aren’t openly Trump supporters, but he had the rally last week in Phoenix and 14,800 were in attendance inside. Hundreds more outside. I work at a huge Healthcare company in Scottsdale, I don’t know one person who voted for him at my office of over 3,000. The company has CNN playing in the cafeteria, 24/7.
On a positive note, I do know a lot of people in AZ that originally voted for Trump and have changed sides since his election. Mostly independent/moderate Republicans. Kyrsten Sinema did get elected, which was surprising. So there may be hope that people in AZ are seeing that Trump is not the way to go. My dad voted for Trump in ’16 and is even swaying now. So, I believe AZ may go Blue this year.

    • anon says:

Jacobin is no longer a reliable source for anything, since they have been sold a few years ago.

  17. Middle of the road says:

On my Facebook feed so far the only ads I’ve seen are anyone but Trump. I haven’t see anything supporting him as of yet.

  18. LP says:

    Everyone please please please:
    1. Volunteer/donate as much as you can for whoever you support in the primary- I’m so ticked about Warren’s coverage and the Bernie Bro talking points I signed up to canvas before my primary. If you can’t do that there’s always phone banking, text banking, small donations, etc, and it all helps!
    2. Decide now that no matter what, you’ll vote a solid straight blue ticket, and that you’ll get friends and family if possible to do so as well. With the courts in the shape they are, and so much on the line, that’s what’s needed to start the muti-year process of un-f*cking this country! I’m REALLY not wanting Biden, Bloomberg, Bernie, or mayor Pete (hell, I really just want Warren), but you’re bet I’ll be out there knocking on doors for whoever!

  19. MellyMel says:

Yeah, he’s not gonna win FL with this talk. I mean I don’t think he was gonna win our state anyway, but this doesn’t help. I’m still team Warren, but will vote for him come November if I have to.

  20. Other Renee says:

Bernie is by far my least favorite Dem candidate. However, it would be unconscionable for me not to vote for him should he win the primaries. I’m not gonna sit on my ass and let all the Trumpsters win. I’d blame myself forever. I’d rather have a socialist than a white supremacist Nazi in the Oval Office. You have to choose your battles. Trump Out. That’s my one and only concern.

    • Food Day Today says:

Bernie unfortunately loves to term his democratic capitalistic welfare statism “socialism.” It’s not socialism, sorry, Bernie. Warren has outstanding technical knowledge to take down the tech monopolies – you guys really need to break them up – but she won’t do anything about your bloated military industrial complex, from which you could divert wasted trillions on empire building and resource controlling overseas (which enriches a tiny percent of your population) back into your nation to alleviate your staggering levels of poverty. On the other hand, I wish the very best luck and personal safety for any politician who tries to take on a very powerful and entrenched military.

  21. Kylie says:

Like a lot of people, I refuse to vote for Trump, and I will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is. However, the thing is, I don’t actually think Bernie could win against Trump. I think Biden could, and Klobuchar probably could. Maybe Buttigieg, and maybe Warren (but there seems to be a lot of people who don’t like her too). Ultimately, I think Bernie is too far left for a lot of the country (even Democrats), and there’s no way he could get the independent or Never Trump vote. I’ll be voting for Klobuchar in the primaries because she seems to be the most moderate of the candidates and has a pretty broad appeal – would likely be able to get a majority of the D vote and a lot of the disenfranchised R.

    • Betsy says:

Warren however is an insanely inspirational candidate. Those of us who have gone full Warren Stan are like the early Obama adopters. She’s the real deal, she has the plans, I trust her to compromise where needed but smart, so smart, and she’ll hire such smart and capable people.

Oh and if I may paraphrase, she wants to hunt down the Trump administration lawbreakers. That means a lot to me because we have let white supremacists and criminals skate in thename of unity and all it gets us is worse white supremacists and criminals.

    • Lightpurple says:

I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to go hear her speak to take that opportunity. She can break the most complex topics down into easily digestible, understandable bites. She’s full of enthusiasm, compassion, common sense, and humor. She has well thought out plans for just about everything and isn’t afraid to say when a question is new to her and will need some exploring but she knows whom to ask.

  22. Ann says:

I’m very tempted to soapbox for Bernie but I’ll refrain. The Castro comments are such bad optics and Bernie knows better. My major critique of Sanders and his campaign is that he’s not doing enough to convince people his base isn’t all the terrible things they’re accused of. Now add Russian support with this frankly pathetic dismissal and this particular shortcoming of Sanders becomes too glaring to ignore.

I wish the candidates all were open about their VP picks now instead of when they get the nomination. I’ve read Bernie’s top pick is Stacey Abrems, who is fantastic. A rumor for Warren is Katie Porter, who is also fantastic. If we knew who our VP is before the election itd make voting for a 78 year old in arguably poor health a lot more palatable.

    • Tina says:

Bernie could at least try to make himself palatable for battleground states…saying Something like he used to be a hippie but his opinions now are more informed…give him some arguable distance between himself and Communist dictators. But he didn’t even try. He just straight up defended his position. If he is that stubborn then he is going to cost Democrats Congressional votes.

  23. Dani says:

If (and it really is unlikely) Bernie gets the nom, Trump is taking 2020. Bernie is too radical to sway independents, moderates and never Trumpers. He’s so far left, that even the DNC doesn’t even consider him a dem. He’s a socialist, plain and simple. There is nothing more, nothing less.

  24. Lightpurple says:

I just early voted for Super Tuesday.
Bernie Sanders did not get my early Super Tuesday vote.

  25. Winterforever says:

    Bernie gets my vote

  26. The Recluse says:

And if he gets the nomination and you can’t bring yourself to vote for him, at least vote for everyone else down ticket from him. We absolutely need to keep control of the House and we need to take the Senate. Plus there are state and local elections that need your votes.
Vote to save this country and to save yourselves.

  27. Rashida says:

‘Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable” – JFK

    • Jerusha says:

JFK said that in relation to Cuba and the rise of Castro. If we were up against a President Jeb Bush ir a President Mitt Romney I could see pushing for a Green/Progressive Revolution. But we are not. We are up against the most destructive President in the history of our country and Sanders will take the Party down against him. Once they really get going, he won’t be a Democratic Socialist, he’ll be a flaming Commie and in this country now, that’ll be the death knell. Start the revolution at the State level-take over governorships, mayors’ offices, city councils, school boards, etc. Stop being every four years spoilers.

  28. mk says:

Hahahahahahahaha!!!! Bezos is afraid of Bernie. What a wimp ass billionaire!
